  1. What's Your Favorite Tools Of The Trade?

An alarm underneath the printer that beeps when the media is getting close to the floor ("ready for take up reel!"), and automatically stops beeping when the media is attached. My (eco-sol) printer is in another room, and it's nearly impossible for me to watch the printer for 10 to 15 minutes...
  2. Question Laminating digitally printed vinyl with Rollover table

I recently got a RollsRoller (Premium model). It works great for laminating, and like Split76 said, the thinner laminates work best (e.g., less "silvering"). Specifically, the cast films like 3M's 8518 provide the best results -- and that's because those films are more pliable. On the other...
  3. Everyone is a designer these days

If you step back from the computer far enough, it actually looks great. (For me, that distance was about 60 yards. lol)
  4. What's your "Go To" sign supply store?

Reece for substrates (good prices, but truck delivery can take a toll on materials) Fellers for printable vinyl, banner, specialty films, and inks. (Competitive pricing if you can negotiate. Really good pricing if you are great at negotiating AND order on a regular basis) GSG only when I'm...
  5. sticker production

cutting rectangles AF, do you ever have issues when cutting rectangles -- for example, the vertical passes (cutting top to bottom) cutting all the way through, the bottom edge (cutting left to right) cuts almost as good, and the top edge (cutting right to left) doesn't cut well? (sometimes...
  6. Weeding after laminating issue

Good point. You may also notice that the part of the cutting strip closest to the head's home position (on the right side) has the most wear, so that could affect your test cut results. I often run 2 to 4 test cuts (at the same pressure) to ensure consistency.
  7. Best Vinyl for FlexCut or PerfCut Decals?

New blades. New blades. New blades are key. I've tried all the materials you mentioned -- IJ35 being the worse. 4500GTX is okay. 3600 series works fine (and it's cheap). The best material I've used so far (regarding small print/cut/flexcut) is Arlon 6000XRP + 3220 lam. Not sure if that...
  8. sticker production

Caldera is great so far. I've used Flexi/Wasatch/WinPlot for a long time, but the only rip I've tried that handles barcodes+cuts+flexcuts (for running back-to-back jobs, fully unattended) is Caldera VisualRip+. Very happy with it so far, and I will probably buy a license soon. Check your...
  9. sticker production

default Summa flexcut settings are not optimal I noticed that my Summa S2 T160 (factory settings and using the latest firmware) worked "okay", but not great (even with a bit of tinkering). So I called Summa tech support and asked them what settings they recommended. The most important...
  10. Weeding after laminating issue

Change blades more often than you expect Agreed. And you mentioned that you also do flexcutting -- an awesome feature (although not "perf"ect. lol), it's very handy. The problem with flexcutting is that it actually cuts into the paper itself, wearing down your blade in no time, whereas...
  11. Caldera VisualRIP+

Hi guys, Does anyone have a licensed copy of Caldera VisualRip+ they wish to sell? (or perhaps a version that could be upgraded to VisualRip+) Thanks.
  12. How many times do you forget about the take up reel (before it's too late)?

Sounds like a good method -- I had not thought of that one. In my personal experience, even when there are people in the production area, they don't always notice when the print is about to hit the floor -- maybe catching it 95% of the time, but that other 5% resulted in hundreds of dollars of...
  13. How many times do you forget about the take up reel (before it's too late)?

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I tried looking high and low for any type of device that might work for this (rather than me building it myself), but I simply couldn't find anything that didn't need to be hacked in some way or another. Of course there's not much to it -- a lot of products on the...
  14. How many times do you forget about the take up reel (before it's too late)?

My prototype uses an ultrasonic rangefinder. I looked into many types of sensors when building the prototype (including the one you mentioned), and the ultrasonic rangefinder was the only one that had the capacity for reliable distance measuring (necessary for my programming method). Here's...
  15. How many times do you forget about the take up reel (before it's too late)?

Estimated price My initial thought was aiming for a price point of about $49-59/ea.: Basic features would probably include: adjustable range finder (to accommodate different environments) adjustable pitch of the piezo buzzer (or adjustable volume if using a mini-speaker) including warranty...
  16. How many times do you forget about the take up reel (before it's too late)?

Hi guys, You know the drill. Start a print, go do something else, come back later and find your print on the floor (past the point of no return). Well, I got tired of throwing hundreds of $$$ in the trash each month, so I put my amateur electronics skills to work and built a small adjustable...
  17. New! Summa S2 T SERIES S2 T75 30" plotter - Ready to ship!

New! Summa S2 T SERIES T75 30" plotter - Ready to ship! Hi guys, I was going to expand my business and open up another location, but things didn't work out (overall investment cost more than anticipated). So now I've got an extra plotter for sale (along with some other equipment which I'll...
