If you havent already tried, try cleaning the encoder strip with some Isopropyl Alcohol. I use a lint free cloth and moisten it with alcohol and lightly wipe my strip. Im shocked every time with how much dust and ink particles end up on the cloth.

I removed the battery on my JV3 and left it out for several minutes and put everything back the way it was, turned on the machine and got a message saying "battery reset" hit okay, and the date still stayed the same I assume because my ink is still expired. Im guessing this is a firmware issue...
