Avoid dark colored backgrounds especially on pvc. We have a laminate that we call "hood" laminate. It's specifically made for horizontal surfaces that get a lot of direct sunlight (car hoods/roofs/trunks). Unfortunately I don't know the specs on it. Our Print Technician knows all about it though.
Could the printer manufacturers share in this fault. When this happens with the HP's it errors out and will not let you continue even after cutting it from the core. Seems to me all they had to do is have a sensor detect the resistance and "PAUSE" with a "CHECK MEDIA FEED" message thus allowing...
Possibly. You could manually draw in reg marks at a precise location then do the same in your layout. That way you can "split" your cut file into sections.
Carpet? Holy crap! Don't even consider it! Polished or painted concrete all the way. Bring in a leaf blower once in a while and blow out the cobwebs and dust bunnies. Don't do it while printing or lamination though.
imo two separate units work better. Latex for print and whatever for plotting. We currently use an HP360 - cons: pia to change out media, colors are extremely hard to nail especially simple red. A Mimaki for plotting. Want to laminate right away? Latex is the way to go.
Don't have access to the actual vehicle? Use the template but don't cut anything until vehicle is on hand for measurements or ask to see the vehicle first. Just saying templates aren't a reliable source.
Downloading from a vector clipart site? Many designers of clipart don't take into account ensuring that it's cut ready nor do they even know what that means. If it's from a third party we let them know that there will be a charge for making it cut ready. They can decide to do that part...
take pics of the vehicle with cell phone, email them, print them, write notes (or some may be able to print directly from the phone). Don't trust the generic outline templates to cover all models.
We get files all the time from the military that are made PowerPoint. Just comes with the job. We have to fix 95% of layouts sent to us. There are tricks of the trade the colleges don't teach these wanna be designers.
An 8' h x 24' w wall graphic made with Photoshop at full scale and 300dpi but...
Nearly all prints get laminated. Get a dual press laminator. Meaning hot or cold. We use cold press 99% of the time now though. Since we have no white ink incorporated in our print set up. We can use a white adhesive vinyl to apply to 2nd surface needs. Kind of a pain to plot but it can be done...
An update. As of 1 July, 2020 we have gone completely to trello. We still have separate software for quotes, sales orders and invoicing though. Unbelievable how well trello works for us. The amount of savings on ink and paper will take time to see but I believe it will be tremendous. The sales...
