  1. First wrap - Mercedes Sprinter van.

We use a primer for all the divots and such. A self lighting blow torch comes in handy too.
  2. Solvent vs Latex.

We spent two days with the HP rep on installation and the basics in using. The rep actually told us that he was color blind therefore could not see that reds were too orange and blue was purple. Tried several of there profiles as well as others. The closest we could get was using 16 pass. The...
  3. Solvent vs Latex.

Yep, we had the same Mimaki and then went with HP360. I've posted many times in this forum concerning the HP printer. I don't like any of it. Still having color match issues. When you're in the middle of doing fleet graphics with the Mimaki and then have to use the HP you will NEVER get the same...
  4. wipers on back windows

This method is too time consuming for simple windows. An oversized rectangle works fine. I have, however, used this method for certain body panels so no cutting would be needed on the vehicle. And yes I know about the cut tape stuff. Not a big fan of it.
  5. advice on software for this Newbie

Corel X8 with win10 all the way! Way easier to learn and costs less. DO NOT GET THE STUDENT VERSION. Could get a cheaper earlier version too though.
  6. pdf file that has vector and bitmap elements issue

What about opening in acrobat pro and save out as eps? Not sure if it can be done with just reader though.
  7. wipers on back windows

I agree with this too. We don't use templates. We take photos of the actual vehicle along with measurements of doors and such.
  8. What kind of vinyl is that?

we printed this onto etchlook vinyl and plotted it for a restaurant window. We don't have the ability to use white so we didn't get too fancy with bevels and such. Turned out pretty good.
  9. Cutting down stickers

We have something similar but only use it for rough cuts like banners and such. Cut can be as much as 1/8" off. When cutting small decals by hand and accuracy is a must I haven't found a more accurate way than a very flat straight edge and x-acto knife. Perfect example is applying decals to 1mm...
  10. Color profiles for hp l 360

You're blaming this on media and not the 360? I say stupid printer all the way. Especially if prints were fine with another printer.
  11. Chevy Express Wrap

I've seen many wraps done "fast". All hack jobs! 2-3 days minimum on install alone.
  12. Rant: Idiot employees who convert all text into outlines

I don't get mad often but when I see this kind of thing happening...I GET MAD. We rarely send out to third party but if I do I have enough sense to leave the orig alone and create another just for them with all fonts converted. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT trust "embed fonts" option
  13. Illustrator question

    I'm worried.
  14. How many can relate?

Many times over. Customer calls asking "where is my sign? Oh, we were waiting on your approval. We sent an email with changes you had requested. "Approved", ok we'll get it right into production and have it for you tomorrow. Customer comes to pick it up and discovers it has the wrong phone...
  15. Aww Yeah!.. another Font ID Request.

    or ITC Goudy Sans Black
  16. Gradient Background Image

You're talking about the background, right? Here's my attempt using mesh fill.
  17. Going crazy trying to print the right BLACK... (Substance material/Moto graphics)

Just be careful sending an rgb 000 color as an eps or pdf to print. RIP will convert it as 0, 0, 0, 100 or Process Black. If all your blacks are filled rgb 000 AND send as rgb tiff then you're good. If all your blacks are rgb 000 and you send it as an eps to print blacks won't be as rich.
  18. Gradient Background Image

Not sure what to call it but you can use a mesh fill in CorelDraw to replicate.
  19. Stupid Fonts...

    Korinna Bold?
  20. Going crazy trying to print the right BLACK... (Substance material/Moto graphics)

Trying to match vehicle colors is very difficult as the paint usually has a metallic flake added to it. DO NOT USE C0 M0 Y0 K100! We use 45, 45, 45, 100. If you use a printer that has Lm and Lc try using a profile that's CMYK only.
