  1. IJ180 CV3 - Issues & Comparable Vinyls

In many cases it's powder coated aluminum. There's typically a few days between powder coating and vinyl application.
  2. IJ180 CV3 - Issues & Comparable Vinyls

We've been having trouble with 3M IJ180 CV3 Controltac with it not staying down. We've gone a few rounds with distributors and 3M, using 3M profiles (as opposed to the Roland profiles on our Roland SolJet Pro 4 XR-640 using only Roland inks,) and we're still having issues. Surface prep is that...
  3. looking for Roland xc-540 service manual

Hi there, I just had a crash with my XC-540 where the sled hit one of the material guides causing a sensor to pop off from a place not easily found. Can I get a copy of the service manual so that I can try to locate where this goes? Please email it to sales@signsolutionsllc.biz Thanks! Mike
  4. Pnc 1850 parts?

After 15 years of performance, our Roland PNC-1850 has shown it's first sign of its age.....a broken pinch roller handle. I broke the handle off one of them when pushing it down to lock the wheel up. Now the roller is stuck in the down position under spring tension. Does anyone know where...
  5. Need Help getting my old PNC-1000A up and running again.

To plot to our PNC-1850, we also have to use the USB to parallel cable. Production manager for Flexi has the port identified as USB001, not sure if this helps. It is the only port that works (there are many other listed) - Keith Sign Solutions
  6. Fake wraught iron look.

@SignMeUp, Love that look! How are you adhering the MagicSculpt to the Foam? I attended the Sawatsky workshop last year, and did a lot of MagicSculpt onto armatures, but not directly to foam. - Keith
  7. Question: How to mask out grooved areas for paint?

I say it was antique because he bought it from an antique shop. For $15. He is rather attached to it. He supplied his exterior latex paint for us to use. We made it clear up front we'd do our best and couldn't guarantee the paint, although it appeared to be a decent sherwin williams line...
  8. Question: How to mask out grooved areas for paint?

Thanks for the replies everyone. A photo of the sign is attached. We suggested repainting everything, but the customer was adamant he liked the old gold lettering and wanted to freshen up the surrounding red areas with a paint to match the trim on his home. This has since been lightly rolled...
  9. font like Papyrus...ugh

I've had good luck by typing the text into Photoshop, black on white bkg, saving as a medium size jpg. I bring that into Flexi and use the Vectorize-> Bezier. It will keep the organic look but remove the smaller detail. I've found this to work better than trying to reduce curve points. The...
  10. Question: How to mask out grooved areas for paint?

Good afternoon All, I have a client who brought an antique wood sign with gold-painted v-routed lettering. The gold looks nice and old. We have been challenged with repainting the REST of the sign to spruce it up, leaving the routed, gold lettering alone. We rolled the sign lightly with...
  11. Finished Monument sign, but bubbling paint

Thanks for the compliments! The bird was a digital print on the original sign, which was weathered and peeling. So into Photoshop I went after taking a highres photo, and lots of pixel pushing.
  12. Font ID

Yeah, I was going to say a warped line of Cooper.
  13. PVC edge

Howdy all, Anyone have any luck smoothing out the edges of cut PVC, to reduce and/or eliminate the porous finish? I've read about using MEK (per the Sintra manual), and tried it, but didn't make one bit of difference. I'm not going to assume that all PVC sheets act alike, but this is the case...
  14. Finished Monument sign, but bubbling paint

Thanks for all the replies! Those attached pics were taken Friday, 4/1. Now it is Monday, 4/4, and after revisiting the site, the bubbles are gone! No trace they were even there in the first place. What the hell? I'm totally baffled. Everything was painted inside, and dried inside as well...
  15. Finished Monument sign, but bubbling paint

Happy Monday all! I wanted to attach a picture of our most recent monument sign project. 3' x 5' Routed HDU panel, painted, w/ digital print of bird on .080 aluminum. The columns are each an .080 aluminum sheet, w/ breaks, with HDU trim epoxied in place and an HDU cap on top. All paints are...
  16. Latex paint: What is the secret to an even coat?

So it appears that the foam rollers are the issue...i.e. not enough paint. Flotrol....is this a paint extender? Also, I will be painting to Astley from now on. It is echoing through the shop now. The day is already better. -Keith
  17. Latex paint: What is the secret to an even coat?

Good morning all, I'm very eager to hear how some of you are able to roll (or brush) latex paint on a primed panel and get a consistent coat after it dries. I'm having difficulty rolling latex paint and getting an EVEN coat when it dries.....I see rolled areas that are more glossy than others...
  18. HUGE tip for those using the Roland Color System

ucmj22, I'm confused here....converting to RVQ swatch to CMYK for the gradients/transparencies....doesn't that change the spot percentage to 4 colors? (how is the density percentage controlled at this point) Or are you speaking of overall layer percentage? -Keith
  19. 2" long+ router bit for HDU

Good afternoon all, (and to the half of you digging out of snow right now, my condolences...) Does anyone have a recommendation for a 1/4" cutting tool to contour cut HDU foam that is 2" thick or more? We have a bit from Onsrud (2 flt low helix for foam, per their catalog) that simply does not...
  20. Finishing HDU

An update: Finally, success with the vroute! In addition to using a satin and/or semi-gloss finish, I also let the paint mask sit on the panel in the warmth of our office, prior to routing (our router is in another building with bay doors) It's also worth noting that the speed of the v-carve...
