  1. Backup System Needed - Please Educate Me

I worked as a network admin before changing careers. My suggestion for ease of use, price and reliability: Crashplan.
  2. Thinking it might be time to hire my first employee, how to in this day and age?

Please pay your employees a living wage so they that can stand on their own two feet rather than requiring food stamps and other social services to get by. That is starting at $15/hour these days. Part time, full time, young or old. Besides it being the decent thing to do, the best way to get...
  3. what the !^€; is wrong with people? part....too high to count

This is a good reason to do direct-to-business work only. Dealing with the walk-ins and the general public is the pits.
  4. So it Begins!!!

We work in such a silly and fun profession. It's like craft time from pre-school extended into adulthood and I just love it.
  5. what the !^€; is wrong with people? part....too high to count

I don't see the problem with a potential client asking for quotes. I don't even see the problem with a potential client asking for quotes frequently and never giving you the work. Either you're interested in getting his work and you give him the quotes or you tell him that you'll pass. There are...
  6. Now, that's low..................................

Well, crud. PM me your info and I'll be sure you get all my banner work.
  7. Now, that's low..................................

Yep, OldPaint writes like he is on AOL. It's irritating enough that I've got him on ignore. I'd love to go on but you're not supposed to offend people on these forums. Regarding the cheap banner maker: meh. They're surely of the cheapest quality. Besides, who really wants to make banners anyways?
  8. Flexi 10 system requirements

If it is capable of being computed, then it can be computed by any computer. The only difference will be the amount of time required to run. Though, it is usually impractical to wait 20 years for a program to load. Flexi will run on your old laptop, but it won't be fun.
  9. Advice and Help Starting Sign Shop?

The old heads on these forums are all doom and gloom. This is the second time I've become grumpy from reading their overly negative and disheartening replies to the new generation of sign makers. I started up a sign business a little over two years ago and things are going great. I've...
  10. Computer networking

I used to be an IT guy but transitioned to self-employed sign work for my own sanity. My input is to setup an openvpn server. However, do not use a router as a vpn server as was previously suggested. Adding additional functions to a router only creates more security risks at your firewall, which...
  11. Has anyone ever seen this happen to paint?

I've seen this sort of reaction when painting in a space with acetone fumes lurking. In other words: chemical reaction. Perhaps you painted too soon after wiping them down with some cleaning agent?
  12. Vector vs Raster, Resolution, and Scaling

Bob is blunt, but not malicious or wrong. You took the time to post this and ask for input, now accept it. If you are to try and teach something you must be precise with your words and concepts. It is also important to be concise. I think this would do better as a series of 30 second videos...
  13. I'm officially retireing from doing race car lettering!!!!

Well this thread sure took a weird turn.
  14. Illustrator vs. Gimp

I'm new around here but I strongly disagree with the general sentiment. The most expensive part of an employee is his time. If he will be more productive and produce a higher quality of work with different software, then let him use that software. Go out of your way to enable him.
