  1. In The Shop This Week

Currently building a hospital main ID pylon 5.5M x 1.5M. I don't always mount pylon frames on gimbals (read modified engine stands) but the amount of times this sign needs to be flipped certainly warrants it. The inner and side faces are clad in mirror finish stainless. just waiting on the cut...
  2. matching wayfinding signs

I'm not at all familiar with any US sign systems but from the pics it almost looks custom made.
  3. How would you fix push through letters?

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll look at the cost of having them routed in one piece.
  4. How would you fix push through letters?

Thanks for the replies. Zendavor, 3M467 sounds like a good idea I'll have to find out what the largest roll is as I will also have a 4' Dia logo to do. Andy D, I've tried this method before. Once bitten twice shy as the shoulder didn't provide enough surface area for adhesion and the letters...
  5. How would you fix push through letters?

When fixing intra cut or push through acrylic letters to a light box face I've never had much luck fixing the face letter to the backing acrylic without producing shadows from the joins in clear VHB or the leafing effect from using acrylic cement. How do you fix these letters?
  6. Why we cant have nice things in our area.....

Is't this de rigueur for our industry? Here, builders are notorious for running behind schedule, wayfinding signs go up after the painters have been through and they start on the morning of the opening.:banghead:
  7. Adhering Acrylic to Cor-ten

Thanks folks for the replies, I will take all the suggestions on-board.
  8. Adhering Acrylic to Cor-ten

The text is cut through with acrylic backing and not push through at this stage. the customer is aware of the discolouration an is happy with it. Personally I don't like the rusted metal look but there's no accounting for taste.
  9. Adhering Acrylic to Cor-ten

That may well be the only way, just exploring the options.
  10. Adhering Acrylic to Cor-ten

I have a customer wanting a cut through, back lit sign face made from Cor-ten steel sheet. I see problems with the opal acrylic letting go as the material corrodes. Can the rear of the sheet be sealed to stop it rusting and provide an adequate bonding surface for VHB and adhesive? Any thoughts...
  11. Why do I like Fellers?

It's hard for me to say why you like fellers Pat but in this day and age know one really cares, so I say go for it, find love where ever you can.
  12. In The Shop This Week

One of the last job I did for my last employer, Now I'm working for myself. Fabricated stainless steel again but thankfully not the faces. It's a pity the detail gets lost when installed.
  13. Advice sought on day/night lightbox

Will do. My graphics buddy will do a sample and we'll see how well it works. Thanks again for all the replies.
  14. Advice sought on day/night lightbox

Thanks for the suggestions. The sign is as Catidavis says, the business is only open at night. MikePro. Not sure what the image will be, probably someone eating a kebab. The image and the text needs to illuminate at night but during the day when not illuminated only the image will show. I...
  15. Advice sought on day/night lightbox

    Polycarb would be clear.
  16. Advice sought on day/night lightbox

They would prefer the text to illuminate white.
  17. Advice sought on day/night lightbox

They don't want to see the text during the day, just the image.
  18. Advice sought on day/night lightbox

Hi folks, A few changes since I was last here. I was made redundant a couple of months ago when my employer close down the manufacturing side of his sign shop so I have stated a small sign fabrication shop manufacturing mainly for the sign industry. As graphics isn't really my forte I'd like to...
  19. Cutting Alum/ACM with Fletcher FSC

Hi, just googled the machine, interesting device. I often have to remove the twist in aluminium strips when guillotining returns for fabricated letters. It's relatively simple to clamp one end of the strip in a vice and untwist the strip from the other end and it will untwist evenly. after a few...
  20. Sliding miter saw for cutting extrusions

If you have an air compressor in your shop setting up a cool mist system for blade lubrication would be fairly easy, if not then an aluminium cutting wax will be needed to produce a clean cut.
