This sort of thing is more limited by the specific printer you have than the RIP that is driving it. To the best of my knowledge, all RIPs treat white ink as a spot color, it's up to the printer/driver how that spot channel can be handled.

The HP Z series printers are aqueous based. Really only suitable for interior prints on paper or specially coated materials.

Kongsberg sells underlay mats specifically made for their machines. For the XL series, i believe the part number is G34034637.

When you create a new profile you can set the ink configuration to CMYK, CMYKcm, or CMYKcmOG. You cannot change an existing profile though.

Does anyone know if these updated procedures apply to the Fuji Acuitys as well?
