Cutting depth varies along length of cutter? Stika

Hi, I have a Roland Stika SX-15. I bought it almost new a few years back and it’s had a problem ever since which I’ve never got chance to rectify.

Basically the cutter is fine in the central part of the unit but for about 1.5in on the left and about 6in on the right it just won’t cut as deep. If you extend the blade so it does cut deep enough then the middle section is cut too deeply.

I thought the machine might be bent slightly but that does seem unlikely. Has anyone here experienced a similar problem with a Stika or other cutter? If so what was wrong with it and can it be fixed?

Many thanks for your help, I’ve wasted too much vinyl because of this problem!

Cheers Ian

sorry. but the machine is a hobby level critter that probably has a worn out wear strip.
It either has a lot of usage or it simply isn't up to the task of doing a good job. Or someone ran it without vinyl for a while and ruinid the wear strip. Or someone didnt adjust the blade right and it cut thru the vinyil into the wear strip.

Good luck. Hope you didnt pay more than $100 for it.

Same..I started with a Stika 12..
Use good quality vinyl, cause the cheap stuff will have varying thickness..That little machine lead me to now owning a versacamm..
Good Luck!

Hi, thanks for the replies guys, the strip does look worn but its fairly consistantly worn I'd say, not like its got holes in the end and not in the middle.

If I can get a new one to replace should that fix it?

Sounds like the wear strip is worn. Replacing it should fix the problem. I have had vinyl that was uneven too but if the strip looks worn it's probably very worn. Better give Roland a call.

It will definately help if not completely rid you of this problem. On my stika, I replace the strip and the blade both every 3-5 months... prevents unforseen problems mid-project.
