Got a check from a scammer today!

lol No maniac they are not even employed.In Mozambique you only need an uniform to become a traffic cop. What a pity....you want to see the natural beauty of the place.It could be a no 1 tourist destination...bringing in billions. dude take it check cashing place, just for the hell of it. If he's that stoopid to send something like that to you he's stoopid enuff to lose it

It is a forged/fake check with either a stolen or fake bank account number. He will never loose a thing.

I was at my local bank one day and saw a lady being escorted to the police car. I asked my friends in the bank what was going on? The story I got was the company got a large certified check for more than the amount of a purchase. She thought it was funny so she deposited in her account and was going to wait until it cleared. However, since it was a forged check SHE was arrested. I never heard if she had been cleared.

The moral of the story is since you know it must be a fake check don't try cashing it just take it to the cops or the bank's fraud department.

What amazes me is that this is 2010. This shouldn't even be an issue.

There's a routing number on the check and I don't understand why the money can't be checked and transferred instantly the check is deposited to see if it clears or not.

I've recently had to deposit REAL cashier's checks and a money order and the teller picks up the phone while you are standing there to verify that they are real.
For some reason, the line wasn't working on Monday so they wouldn't cash them and I had to go back the next day.

So chances that you'd even be able to cash the fake-o-rama are just about zero.
Which, I suppose, is why they want you to deposit it. At my bank it still wouldn't work.
