Healthcare

Unless the $500 per month for your "large family" was YOUR portion after your employer picked up most of the premium, that doesn't sound like anything I've ever seen anywhere in the last couple decades.

There hasn't been a low deductible, low co-pay, multi-family member policy with a reputable insurer that low priced in many, many years that I've seen. I have friends, former employers, family members, colleagues, business associates with a couple kids and they've all been paying over $1,000 per month for as long as they can remember. I remember an exhibit/tradeshow company I worked at between 1995-2000, 10 years before the ACA and our office manager spent the better part of a month EVERY year shopping for health insurance for us all and the amount taken from my check every week just for me was nearly $50 for a decent policy that didn't have high deductibles and co=pays.

The bigger point is that there are tens of millions of hard working Americans needlessly suffering and not having access to decent healthcare, let alone Cadillac healthcare because of its high cost. Combine that with the FACT that now nearly 50% of all workers earn less than $30k per year, Houston we have a problem. Vilifying other systems for valuing their citizens over the profit motive isn't going to make our system better.

And more Government is the solution? We know why ACA was implemented to produce that outcome it has. We are not all as ignorant as you even if you would like to project that on to us.

Unfortunately your numbers are way off. Prior to ACA my premiums for a Cadillac health plan were under $500 month for a large family. Within 18 months of ACA my premiums skyrocketed to $2,500 month. Eventually my plan disappeared. I couldn’t keep my doctors. Everything was lies. Now my premiums are still through the roof and my deductible is 5x what it was and my OOP max is 10x what it was and I still can’t keep my doctor. But hey, I have maternity coverage for my sons now. I have to drive into another county to find a doctor that accepts the current junk plans. Not alone, our community was hit hard by Ocare.

How much is the subsidy you receive?

This has been pretty entertaining.

Neither side has made an headway on swaying anyone's opinion.

Why don't we take two states with similar demographics and let each party run their healthcare plans and see which turns out better.

I'm personally fine with 100% free market or single payer, as long as it's not some half way compromise.

Just want something that works.

O, I get it you like everyone to share in your misery and envy.

"Misery and envy"? Dude, some of us are doing just fine, living wonderful lives with all we need and in beautiful settings.

Did you watch 60 Minutes last night? Ray Dalio who is the 79th richest person on earth was on and he is solidly in the camp of restraining the brand of unfettered capitalism we practice or face severe and possibly violent repercussions from the commoners being squeezed at every angle from catering too much to the top 1%ers.

I'm not projecting anything. Some of you are representing yourselves as ignorant all on your own.

After decades of zero movement towards cost containment and better care, the ACA was created to fill the need that wasn't being filled by private industry.

Living in the richest country on earth while having a sizable portion of its population without access to ANY healthcare other than the ER or Urgent Care clinics didn't sit well with a vast majority of us.

This is all a moot point. We already have multiple forms of socialized healthcare in the forms of Medicaid, Medicare and the VA. If it's good enough for our vets, the elderly and the extreme poor, then maybe the rest of us should demand that we get what EVERY other industrialized country has offered with better results for many decades.

For the first time in many decades, our life expectancy rates have dropped for two years in a row. I'd say your new messiah better hurry up on that campaign promise of the "bestest, cheapest healthcare" or he's losing part of his base.

Life expectancy is dropping because of Heroin overdoses.... We can blame healthcare for getting them all hooked on pills years ago.

Why are you and the other uninformed trying to equate Democratic Socialism as its practiced in those countries I mentioned with Maoist and Stalinist communism and some kind of highly oppressive socialism you don't even know the definition of?

Bernie Sanders or AOC are not advocating we become the Khmer Rouge, they are wanting a more restrained and accountable capitalism where people are dying from skipping their insulin because of its cost. Or going 15 years without a boost to the minimum wage, while the top 1% gets multiple tax cuts and reaps all the economic benefits of people's hard labor.

So do MOST Americans. Every credible study, polling and research shows that the policies being promoted by most Democrats enjoy huge support of a vast majority of Americans.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/07/politics/democratic-positions-majority/index.html

Your ignorance of the subject matter is profound. Do yourself a favor and research the history of democratic socialism, how it is used by communists to topple governments, and how it’s adherents are looked down upon as spineless wimps and idiots by their revolutionary socialist counterparts.

If you are so worried about other people dying, then you should immediately protest any push for any flavor of socialism as socialism has sensely murdered 100s of millions of innocent healthy productive people in the last 100 years.

The goal of socialism is communism. Marxism, Cultural Marxism, Democratic Socialism, Nazism, Fascism and all the other isms are one in the same thing: communism.

You are just simply the most ignorant person I have encountered in quite some time. It is as if you have never been beyond the end of the block your entire life. I hold out hope for you but you have a long way to go to get back to reality my friend.

One of the great beauties of Individual Liberties and Free Speech is the Communist Asses can expose themselves.

I find it problematic that your response is the standard canned response I read whenever the ACA comes up. Frankly, based on my experience of pricing out health insurance pre & post ACA and working my income to benefit me the most with insurance, your story really doesn't jive.

The only explanation I've seen for your story is switching from a faux insurance plan to an ACA approved one or switching from a good company plan to an ACA plan. Even then, your numbers sound extreme and likely exaggerated.

A huge factor for the price increases was the 30 or so states who sued over being forced to create exchanges and then have the feds have to create them for them after their citizens demanded what everyone else was getting.

This entire thread reveals the deep polarization and tribalism being exploited to the maximum by those who are profiting from the status quo. You have some posters who likely getting closer to receiving Medicare, but want to portray anything that does the same thing for all ages as Stalinist plot to rob them of their freedom, guns and bibles.

Your second sentence shows another big factor that had to be tackled by the ACA in those states who refused to buy in. Many of them had allowed crappy insurance companies like Golden Rule and exploitative plans to proliferate and when it came time to demand some baseline features like no penalties for pre-existing conditions, annual diagnostics, the 80/20 rule, contraceptives, mental health, etc. those providers scouldn't pass muster.

Sorry to disappoint you but I've actually lived and worked in four distinctly different parts of this wonderful experiment in democracy and egalitarianism.

You might have to look that one up before you start calling anyone else ignorant. I probably read over a dozen different publications per week and draw from a huge variety of sources for every issue discussed here or elsewhere.

Between 2003 and mid-2004, I travelled over 35,000 miles throughout nearly every state of this country and got to see every kind of community that exists.

I challenge you to refute any of the facts or evidence I and a few others have used to counter your ridiculous perceptions and anecdotal stories. The only person you need to hold out hope for is yourself. I've got my end covered very nicely, but thanks.

Wait for it, AF said Toad has not been beyond the end of the block! He will give you his life story how he walked in the ciold to be a sign painter. Ran big time Bed and Breakfast places, successful restaurants and now the utimate sign shop. We have heard the story 20 times! Now he is calling his fellow sign people ignorant. But he will say thats OK because the other person started it. Toad is my hero!
Wait,I did not write fast enough, he is already patting himself on the shoulder in the above post. And the biggest news on CNN so far this week is Don Lemmon is engaged to his boyfriend. I think Tyrus on Fox could take all those guys on CNN with one hand tied behind his back. And Rachel Madow is still mad she did not get a Junior/ Senior prom date, because she is just wacked out and mean.

Again, you are totally ignorant of the subject at hand. Since you have never spent any time in a true socialist country, or even a capitalistic socialist country, especially during the Cold War era you just have no basis other than propaganda sources for your sense of reality. You have never studied the true history of your beloved socialism, and sadly you are the typical “useful idiot” who is so easily duped into supporting something you simply do not understand.

Ya know toad, I'm beginning to see your pattern(s), now. You have 2 or 3 pet comebacks, go arounds and places you find information. It seems like you feel if you throw enough sh!t at it, something.... sometime will eventually stick, huh ?? Problem is, no one is really listening to you. They hear ya making noise, but nothing very discernible. It's a shame, but that is a fact, jack.
