HP Latex 365 - Printing Issues

I appear to be having two different issues here (or maybe they're related?). The first image shows some pink/yellow ink, which I am assuming is a bad printhead malfunction? Never seen this happen before. The second image is showing some off-color banding starting only from the side that slowly fades out in different sizes. It's inconsistent when it wants to appear, but when it does, it looks very noticeable. Any tips on how to fix this issue?

You need to replace trailing cable data&power 2ET72-67020 to fix the first issue.
2nd one you will only fix with a new printhead. Whatever colour goes missing you replace it. Enable the spit bars to see better.

We have had the same issue as is shown in your second picture on more than one occasion. It was always a bad or old printhead causing the problem. I would just start with trying a new magenta/yellow printhead(s) to see if that doesn't solve both problems.

Strangely enough, I did a force drop detection (among other print quality tests) and the printheads appear to be healthy. Could it be anything else?

We had the banding on one side issue on our high mileage 570 and replaced our whole pinch roller assembly to fix it.

I have replaced several of the printheads and the ones that are not brand new have less than 1500mL used on them. Done all the cleaning options in the setup, checked and cleaned the platen, substrate advancements, etc. So its possibly the trailing cable?

It's 100% the cable. Replace it and it's fixed for long time.

I have a l28500. And it only happened with heads that were about to die. I never changed the cable.
The l28500 has this extra cleaning during production which can be turned on in the settings. Not sure if your printer has it
I would def replace the specific color heads before going into the cable.

Thanks for the answer, balstestrat! As you said, replacing the trailing cable indeed resolved the issue I was having. I just wanted to pop back in this thread with a resolution in case anyone Google's this question. I also replaced the printheads as an added measure, so now it's printing perfectly.

We were dealing with a similar problem last month. Lesson learned (again), don't print huge panels of neutral colors on the latex. We had to do a color change on a vehicle and I cannot tell you how many times that had to reprint panels because of color shifting, banding and other inconsistencies.
Any time we start to see banding like that, one of the first things we do is check the print heads. Issue a nozzle check to see if anything is out. Often times we noticed in those lighter colors it tends to be an issue with the light cyan/light magenta print head. So if that one is 3-4k ml of ink fired I'll generally change it out.
The other thing we do is force drop detection in the maintenance menu. This will check for blockages and can be done before doing the nozzle check if you want. I find that it is a quick way to narrow down the issue without having to clean all the print heads. It would tell you which colors are blocked and that way you can target those print heads specifically or on the other hand you can skip the cleaning altogether if your values come back as 0's or relatively low.

If you haven't done this before its under the service menu. PRESS 3174 to enter service mode and go to the (1.5) scan axis menu -> (1.5.1) force drop detection

Thats an option with the 700/800 series? 2 LC/LC printheads? Does it fix the color shift problems?

That depends what your meaning of fix is.

Where it helps with is ink starvation issues and has more nozzles available to use to bypass clogged nozzles.

In general observation I would say yes it is an improvement but the nature of Latex ink is such that there is always going to be some shifting in color based on environment and available nozzles. Best you can do is consistently calibrate.

Well I was curious if they performed any better when printing large solid neutral colored panels. But at the end of the day the technology is still the same and it sounds like the issues would still be there.
Which model do you have? We are running with three 360s and one 560. Our 560 has always been a lot slower than the nearly 10 year old 360s and we have never figured out why because its supposed to be faster. Do you have experience using the 300/500 series?
