Our shop is looking to upgrade our Oce Arizona 480 and I'm debating between the HP Latex R1000 vs Vanguard vk300d. We are not a production shop. We care about being able to hit Pantone colors as best as possible and no banding. Does anyone have experience with both of these machines?

If I may humbly submit our own excellent UV flatbed printer for your consideration, check out the Sova Glyph. It uses the same ultra-fine Kyocera printheads that the Vanguard uses and basically all the same hardware. Fully supported by us, CMYK Engineering, remotely and in-person based out of LA. In fact, we will be in Tucson and Phoenix next week for service calls. We would be happy to stop by your shop with samples and to talk about your planned upgrade.

HP has a automatic drop detector for defect nozzle replacement. Vanguard doesn't even have a manual way to do that. As long as there are no missing nozzles, it prints nice. But with degrading heads you will get banding.
HP has a unique way of handling white with not much user intervention, where Vanguard's white is a nightmare.

Are you looking at new or used? We have both a Vanguard VK300D-HS and a R2000. We are selling both and located in Mesa.

I can Answer most of your questions on both the R Series and Vanguard. The R series, will have the smallest gamut and the least likelihood to band, the Vanguard has a larger gamut, finer dot size for higher fidelity, but in large solid colors there is the possibility of gloss banding.
