Missing thread....................

I'm a complete d!ck in real life. Well, sometimes... when I'm feeling ornery. But on the interwebs you can't take stuff back. Once you say it, it's out there. I'd rather not have my personal feelings about poor design, or my strong opinions on the net associated with my business name. See what happened when I had an opinion about Corel Draw? So I usually keep those ideals close to my chest and allow my clients to get the best of my knowledge rather than me berating them for bringing in their son's dog's design work in Publisher.

Which is what I try to do in here. Offer strong helpful advice when and where I know it will be used and valued the best. Being overly snarky isn't really helpful in a room full of strangers. Unless there's a thumbs up button, I don't see the need to cause a laugh at other's expense. However, that doesn't mean that I'm sooo not tempted to from time to time. I slip up in here occasionally. But I don't think they are ever personal.

You know, if people don't like the way things are run, they could always try to start their own thing and see if they can do it better.

This is the description for the Logo Design Forum:

Post logo designs for objective critique by members. It is highly recommended that you post what you have done already. Asking for ideas without first making your own effort will not get you as many replies.

Objective critique doesn't call for assumptions or second guessing the OP and posting what you think is in their heads. It means point out what's wrong with what is presented and what changes might make it better.

Go back and :readthread: with an eye towards which replies in the Warwick Designs threads were an objective critique and which were unhelpful or rude or likely to send the OP looking for a new place to learn and share. No one is trying to limit any member's freedom of speech or expression, but common courtesy has to play a role also. We're missing a whole lot of very good sign guys and gals who have left the building because of rude replies. I'm fed up with it ... How about you?

Gino is alright. He represents the tough side of the sign biz. He has some good info and lessons, but like the sign biz, knowledge usually comes with a little pain.

I'm of an open mind. Please point out any good info and lessons. In particular, please point out any direct help given to any newbies.

I agree, but this is still the best sign forum on the web. The few others I know of have become a meeting place for the handful of members left.
I'd hate to see this place end up like that.

You're serious ?? I'm supposed to prove myself ?? To you ?? About something so frivolous ??I've gotten several e-mails already showing me some and they're recent. You're taking this further then need be. I guess you're on a witch hunt like some of the others lately, huh ??

:awesome:

Whatever..............

Profane and profane accessories.
Jeez, I hope you guys are kidding. I'm not even American and I know that your free speech amendment applies only to government, not message boards on the internet.

Yep, that's what I was going to say. And I contend Fred does a great job with the boards.

You ask this of others on this forum all the time. Now the shoe's on the other foot.

I guess you're on a witch hunt like some of the others lately, huh ??
Extremely ironic coming from the guy that starts his own witch hunts on a regular basis.

I've got an inbox full as well ... thanking me for finally saying something. I don't think any of this is frivolous. It's as serious as a heart attack. Your continued rude treatment of new members undermines much of what is good about Signs 101, drives members away and threatens our viability going into the future. As a seasoned member of the sign industry, you inevitably set an example for others. Unfortunately it too often plays out as you jump to some conclusion and issue some rude statement and then your followers take your cue and chime in with more negative comments. As far as I can tell, and to put it bluntly, you appear to be a bully by nature and an egotist who cares more about your self esteem than the welfare of the Signs 101 community or just plain being helpful to others.

Signs 101 welcomes all members of the sign profession and related graphics professions regardless of their experience, or their ability to post a question you personally approve of, or their understanding of your notions of proper forum etiquette. Your actions here have too often contributed to the loss of 100's, possibly 1,000's of members.

There's nothing for you to prove. Your Welcome from Pennsylvania chant and rude treatment of all the new members you've identified as beneath contempt have already done that. What would be nice would be for you to have an introspective look at yourself and consider that what I'm saying may be true and that you are often a liability to the welfare of this community.

So, I've lost 1,000's of members here ??

I do believe that's a stretch. However, like I said, you have all the neat buttons at your fingertips and all I have is a keyboard.

While we both disagree and you and your backing of followers see it one way, I'm being told by members who are still here, some not posting at all anymore, that most of them have left because of the nonsense which goes on, day in and day out. Some of it which I do play a part in, and again that represents a very small portion, but it doesn't amount to 1,000's let alone 100's. Maybe a few have said it gets tiring seeing the back & forthness, but both sides of the fence are viewed.

Again, you use the same term Joey uses and some others.... I 'appear to be'........ something conjured up in your head based on some theory in your head. For the many people here who know me, have been to our shop, my home and have become very good friends, I know they would totally disagree with you. I'm not about to go into a biography, so I'll say I am hard-headed and stubborn, but more than that, I dislike liars and back-pedalers. My self esteem needs no inflating from this place. That's between me, my wife and God. No one here needs to hear it, they can witness it firsthand if they choose, but I'm not looking for it on a public forum. You are letting this place get to you, Fred. I'm no one to tell you, but I might suggest you take a little time off and re-charge your batteries. I mean afterall, you told me what would be nice for me and I'm only looking out for your well-being, too.

Last, you say, nothing to prove ?? That was my point. I have nothing to prove to you or anyone else, but you posed the question to have my 'posts of help' re-posted so you can review them. How is that not you asking me to do some kinda clerical job for you ??

..... now lastly.... you say my 'Welcome' posts are hurting and sending people away, and yet you claim I am the one setting proper etiquette of asking questions or making requests. How is welcoming someone who has 3, 4 or less posts under their belt rude, condescending or hurtful to someone new, other tha that guy some years ago you thought took offense at it, so you deleted it and scolded me ??

1. Not a stretch at all. It's a fair estimate. Over the course of your tenure here (8 years) that's an average of 125 a year. That's less than the number of Welcome from Pennsylvania posts you've made to new members posting questions in a forum other than New Member Welcome.

I'm happy to see you take some credit but your role is more than a small part. And the "back and forthness" you mention is more what many would call "mean spirited". Whatever we call it, your posts in many cases serve to detract from the discussion and shift the emphasis to the shortcomings (in your opinion) of the new member. But, to be clear, there are other things and other members who contribute to an often hostile discussion here. But you started this thread and it is, for the moment, a discussion about you.

2. I am putting into words an opinion which I cannot state it to a certainty ... therefore, "appear to be" leaves room for some other explanation, if you have one. But you are most certainly not in my head and have very little beyond your imaginings and assumptions to go on as to anything about me. But the problem isn't me Gino. It is you. And if you don't need Signs 101 to boost your self esteem, why do you pontificate so often? We all have likes and dislikes. That doesn't mean we sit in judgment on those we've only just met and shout out our suspicions, misgivings and assumptions about them at the earliest opportunity. If we were at a public gathering, we would remain silent and give the benefit of the doubt since this is normal courtesy. Somehow, in your case, you seem to feel that isn't anything to be concerned about here.

3. The post was to Player. It was not to you. He was making excuses for you so I challenged him to back up his assertions. I notice that he has not yet done so.

4. Not sure why you don't get this. Your oft posted "Welcome from Pennsylvania" in a non New Member Welcome thread has become code for "You have not followed my rules of etiquette and have earned my contempt". Others pick up on this and sometimes a thread goes south from there. If this isn't your intention, then I suggest you should stop doing it. Otherwise, I can only conclude that my observation is a correct one and you are being mean spirited. The observation is not of one isolated event. If you would like me to prove it, I can do a find on all of them not in New Member Welcome, delete them and then compare your current post count to the new one.

Okay. One more last thing and then I'm good unless someone else calls me out.

I never said I was in your head. I don't think anyone here has the time to be thinking of other members and still running or working at a business, regardless of part-time, hobbyist or full service shops. I made note that you and others have this habit of conjuring things up in your head and then placing them down as fact as if I really said, meant or did, say or do something, which is like any of you putting words in my mouth. In other words, one might say the truth is being stretched, just like you had said 1,000's plural and now it's down to less than a thousand. I hardly think I am responsible for that number, but if I am..... so sorry.

Anyway, I think I've said enough.

Where did I say it was less than 1,000? I offered to demonstrate exactly how many times you've done it.

As far as conjuring up, I specifically pointed to your exact posts HERE to avoid any such horrific deed.

Apology accepted whenever you stop doing it.

I agree.

Wait, are you saying I'm responsible for losing 1,000's of members or writing 1,000's of rude condescending remarks ?? Now I am confused ??
