Hey, OP. You know I'm a potter too. At least I used to be. I have to send
some pics of my work someday. Haven't had my hands in the mud in many
years. I still have two wheels and a Paragon just like that one. I even had
a slab roller made out of an old wood block press. Always wanted to build a
raku kiln, but never got around to it.

luv raku...........most fun you can have with your clothes on)))))).
i have a total of 4 kilns right now. a paragon A-99 and the new one in the picture is an A-100. lot of stuff is interchangable. the one i dont use as electric, iam gona set up as a RAKU gas fired kiln. i got 2 smaller ones, and the same will go there. so ill have a big electric, medium size electric, and same in gas fired for raku or salt glazing. i also have this kiln, i bought 12-15 years ago, it is brand new and ive never even test fired it. but gona set it up so i can see how my glazes look before i put on production work. and i give $75 for it !!!!!!!!

Nice OP...
Will you be recycling your clay?
I remember back in HS my art teacher use to recycle clay every year.

Looks like you have room for 2 students on the weekends.

Do I see OP bobble head dolls in the near future?
Have fun with it

Thanks for having a sence of humor about it OP! I didn't think you'd be
offended. I didn't mean for that to look quit so pornographic... here's the
original with Patrick Swayze (RIP)

You studied at Penn State, Right? Do you remember your instructors name?
There was one teacher there in the 70's who became quite well know. Wrote
a few book on the subject.

this was him. i feel so fortunate to have had almost 3 years of his input into my life. i not only had him as a professor at penn state, but he was a dear and wonderfully enlighting friend. i miss him still. was more like a father to me, imparting his knowledge of many things as fast as i could absorb it. the man spoke, read and wrote 7 LANGUAGES!!!!! one was MYAN. a lot of his art was MYAN/AZTEC influenced, as well as Picasso. the man was a master potter 1st off. he studied with Shoji HAMADA, world reknow japanese potter. he also was a contemorary and friend of BERNARD LEACH, the english potter.
he was also a sculpture, painter & wood carver. while i was working with him, he had been commisioned to do a set of wooden church doors in a uniontown old gothic church. the doors were almost 10 ft tall and each was at least 4 ft wide. he drew the design, had it all made ito a pattern to lay on each door, and was going to remove the wood..........all with HAND TOOLS!!!!! i introduced him to a HAND HELD ROUTER!!!!!! once he saw me removing what would have taken him a day to remove in a couple of hours.........he was hooked. got the doors done and ready to be hung under deadline. i was also his mechanic!!!!! he drove an orange and white VW BUS. SO ANY and all work on it, i did.
while being his assistant at PENN STATE he would do con-ed classes at local places in fayette county. and since i was his helper/student, he made sure i went with on all these classes. was easier for 2 to teach an evening class. we taught the original owners of NEW GENEVA POTTERY, you can google it. they sell turn of the century salt glazed pottery. i also was the potter at MEADOWCROFT VILLAGE outside pittsburgh, for a summer between college.it was a mile from home. and some of the pine trees there, were planted by me in 1958-60!!!!!!
sorry to ramble but i dont get to talk about ZK as much as i could.

Great story OP. You are very fortunate to have had the opportunity to
study under such a talented person. My instructor at Southeastern State
in OK. was a big fan, and spoke of him often.

I have books by both Hamada and Leach.
