Onyx 24 issue BEWARE!

The sad part is, Onyx will fix these issues in their next major release... And expect their customers to pay to get the bug fixes. Just like the previous versions.
Hah... Good luck! It Took 2 major releases for my bug.

I had an issue since onyx 21.

If you had a cut file where you added bleed via onyx.... It would cut off by however much bleed you added. Or if you added bleed then automatically added cut marks it'd do the same thing.

I emailed them... Took me a few back and fourths and they were able to replicate it. Did it on every printer, every cutter.

My first email and then confirming it's a bug was Nov 2021.

I got an email on Dec of 2023 saying my logged issue was now fixed in the newest release.

I asked if there would be a bug fix or patch for onyx because nothing in onyx 23 was worth me paying 1.5k to upgrade for.... And they said no. I asked for a discount or something because it's dumb that it took 2 years to fix a bug that severely affected my workflow (it did, I had to completely change how I was doing wall panels because of it), and got an offer of 5% off or something so miniscule for upgrading due to being a loyal customer and helping them point out bugs

I paid and upgraded... I usually pay and upgrade right before a release to stay current, but it was insane that they can put a major bug fix behind an upgrade like that.

Hopefully this bug doesn't take 2 years to fix, and doesn't come at a cost to fix! Paying so much money for software, especially on a yearly basis should.get you quicker bug fixes IMO... The whole point of the "subscription" is so they can continue to improve the software with the money they get.

I'm fine with monthly subs, even fine with insanely priced software, I just wish it came with insanely good / fast support to make it worth while.

We were told that subscription software would allow the developers to put out patches and updates more frequently and not have to wait for major updates, but this is not the case with onyx.

Subscription software is horrible for the consumer, there is no incentive for the software companies to innovate or provide good customer service, you are stuck paying them every month, they are thriving on your sunk cost fallacy. It was always just a way to provide a steady income stream for software companies who used to have to innovate and update their products in order to get paid.

I thought about that and tried that. However it wasn't nesting, or at least it would not rotate to make use of most of the media... Print is individual jobs was taking up an extra 30 ft of material.

Print individual is how I do a lot of stuff at work on our solvent printer because it doesn't make a difference, on a latex printer it's still spins down the heater and has to reheat itself up for 3 minutes.,. Still better than hitting Print 30 times, but but I'm not willing to waste an additional 30 ft of material on a 90 foot print.

Turns on I never uninstalled Onyx 22.5... so I had to do is open it up and I was good to go!
Damn, was worth a shot/mention!

Onyx has released a Micro-Update in regards to some of the cutting issues you have been experiencing in this thread. You can use the links from our website to download. Download the latest version and when installing, select the repair/upgrade and the software will update. Release notes are as follows:

• Resolved an issue where jobs would not group together when using XY Trimmers if image dimensions were different.
• If a print job had multiple sheets and had a cutter on the job, not all cut files were being made. When multiple cut files would work accordingly, they had the same barcode. Both issues have been resolved in this update.
• 10.1 RMS license server could be installed on one computer but not on anther network computer. RMS license server is now working accordingly.
• The “vertical alignment” checkbox for Fotoba and XLA is now able to be toggled.
• Print event messages for nest and print states had print failures that would occur when using SRM key with Print Width set to 24’’. Multiple images can now be printed if within print width maximum.

Since we're fixing bugs... I've had a bug since onyx 22 thats still there in 24... On The Epson resin printer, if you load a media and then click get media info / size, onyx will crash. Then when you re-open it... itll get it perfectly fine without crashing.

Happens every single media load unless you wait like 5 mins after loading to update the media... I never submitted a case or reached out, just figured it'd be fixed eventually... It's more of an annoyance since all I have to do is re-open onyx, so it doesnt "break" anything, but its been almost a year.... And I confirmed it does it on 2 different computers, and it doesn't do it on the latex or solvent, just the Epson r5070
It would be very helpful to contact our technical support team and point out issues that you experience. If we are unaware that a problem is there, we could not fix it.

Just wanted to confirm the issue is fixed for me. Sent 2 2 FT Tiles... It didn't create the cut file for the second until it started to print it, Where as before as soon as I hit print it'd generate every cut file, so at first I was worried it wasn't working, but it seems to be fine!

Good to know that some of those cutting issues are now resolved. I'm still going to wait, hoping there will be an update to support the UCJV330 like they had told me when I went to buy 22.5, guess integrating that machine didn't go as planned.

We do have drivers for the Mimaki UCJV330 with the latest release on Sept. 20. This release also includes the ink layering abilities in the media profile settings.

Thanks for letting me know about this! I had just looked up supported printers on the website and it wasn't listed. I'll have to check it out!

The one I speak to doesn't listen and talks over me. I have only once had an issue resolved with phone support and that was about 5 years ago. When he sent his summary email he said my issue was with 22.5 when the call originated from an issue with 24, but to be fair both are having issues and I mentioned them. I am about to give up and go back to 19 until 25 is released.

The fact it took 3 or so months for issues like this resolved is very poor. This would be a result of lack of beta testing and listening to customer feedback.
This is literally why we moved to caldera. I haven't had any bugs as such at all from any update. And if there was, it's fixed with in days, not months.

You guys need to take this comment, pin it in the office and evaluate why these issues are happening.

Yeah I already found this out after I printed 1/4 of a roll. If you print the sheets one at a time it gave them individual barcodes, if you queued up multiples, they all got the same barcode. I also noticed that my Graphtec FC9000 was not handling jobs correct and doing a cross cut at the leading edge of the sheet instead of the back and I had to manually cut. Also seemed to lose connection after I ran a cut and I had to restart the cutter and the cut server.

They also still don't support the UCJV330 machines in the v24 update. :(

I spoke to them about it a couple weeks ago and it was escalated up to engineering but I have yet to hear anything back.
Glad I didn't uninstall v22.5.
I have had issues (escalated) up to the engineering department too. I've never received any response or updates on the issues either. It's their way to get you off the phone because they have no answers!
