Roland VP 540 AND VERSAWORKS loosing IP connection and stop printing not connected

It is common in Roland printers the faulty network port on mainboard, But still would not mention motherboard change until making sure, network configured properly.

The only way to fix the VP ethernet connectivity is with a new main board. The main board is not available anymore. You can keep heat by the chassis and that will witk. for a while.

Yes, same Main Board for VP-300 and VP-540. It has to be programmed, can’t just swap it.
If Ethernet works just one time the parameters can be taken from the old board.
If not, board will need to be programmed from scratch.

You don't need to program the board as such, you just set the DIP switches for the correct model, then do the normal calibrations to dial it in and change the network settings in VW. It is easier to take the settings from the old board, but not vital.

That’s great thanks Damon. So I went and picked up the vp300. Which turns out to be in a better condition than my 540. Only problem is it’s sat in storage for 2 years with ink in. So my dilemma now is do I try and see if the heads would come back to life on this 300 before I try and swap the mainboards? I’ve drained all the ink so far. And cleaned the lines. But need new dampers and captops.
I’ve also printed off the report from 540 via peck and saved to pc.
What would be your advice in this situation? Many thanks

After 2 years in storage you have basically no chance of ever getting the heads back working well enough to print. I wouldn't waste any time or money on trying to get it to work, just keep it for spares for you 540 as a lot of the parts are the same on both of them
I would swap over the mainboards ( you will need to set the DIP switches on it so the board now knows it is a 540 and not 300.
Then go through the calibrations to set the printer back up for the new board as in the user manual ( scan, feed, cut etc... ) and you should be good to go

thanks again for the quick reply.
Excuse my lack of knowledge in this side of things. The most I’ve done in the past is keep it maintained.( clean head, cap tops ect)
How do I do the dip switches?
I’ve got the service notes booklet I downloaded which shows how to replace main board but it’s the bits after that get me.
1. Dip SW setting
2.battery installation
( Which logic says to me if it’s In The main board this should be done before you put it back in? But it doesn’t say that.
3.firmware install
4.system parameter initialise
5.ip address setting ( I know is in in user settings)
6.put parameter ( I guess is from the peck?)
7.time and date
8.firmware confirmation of network controller
9.sensor check
10.crop mark sensor adjustment
11.crop cut adjustment

Seems like it would take me a lot longer than 10mins lol.
But I tend to agree with you regarding just changing over the boards and keeping the rest for parts. It makes sense seeings that what I bought it for.
But what makes me think I could get the heads back is I think it was dtf ink which came off from around the heads very easy. And also cleaned the tubes out easily too. Part of me wants to try then the other parts like no just do what you intended ‍♂️
So are these dip switches on the boards? Or in the settings?
Thanks again for all you r help

for all of you having this problem, connecting and disconnecting from network on a Roland printer, actually on Friday my coworker used and printed 4 posters 24x36 on a 54" roll paper, unfortunately, he did not print all 8 the customer needed, on Monday, I printed the remaining 4 posters and took about 3 hours to print them, found out that the machine was connecting and disconnecting, I came to this forum and found out many possible fixes, my printer is old and I said, if its going to cost money, we will get rid of it, the posters came about 1 inch shorter and you can see where stopped and continued printing, I changed network cables, restarted many times and no luck, at the end of the shift, I turned off the printer completely, came yesterday, (Tuesday 1/28/25) and started the printer, and it connected, versaworks detected it, tried a sample and worked with not problems, then did some other jobs and it was fine.

Hope this help someone having this issue, worth try it.

Before you put the new mainboard in, go into Service Mode and get the head rank for all 4 heads to enter into the new mainboard. Also go into the head adjust section and write down the horizontal and bi-direction settings. In addition, go into the crop-cut and print-cut alignment sections and record those numbers. This will save you from having to run the alignments again.
