HUGE fan of silicone. BUT, only when you can allow for the bead thickness to be 1/8" or more. Which is why I will always preach the vhb tape and silicone combo.

try applying a sign panel with silicone-only or silicone/thin bonding tape combo and comparing to silicone+vhb. ...a million times stronger.

Same here...always silicone and tape combined - even on super-light letters/signs. Sign installations should generally be 'over-engineered' in my opinion.
