UPS boycott

ddarlak

Go Bills!
I am probably the last guy on the planet to support unions, but I am boycotting UPS on all incoming shipments for the foreseeable future. LINK

Hah, you're on your own there. I like UPS. FedEx, on the other hand, delivers "The World on Time" around 4 PM every day. Absolutely useless to me.

Positively hate UPS, sad thing is we have a really good friend and client that owns a UPS Store and they ship FED EX for us all the time.

I think its really bad when politics get involved and then big companies feel they need to threaten the livelihoods of their employees to get around issues.

I love UPS.

They pick up my crap and drop it off where I tell them to.

I don't give a left turn about their internal labor strife.

I love UPS.

Not only do we pay them to deliver our goods, but we also TRUST THEM with our goods. Think about it, we have no clue who handles our packages throughout it's delivery cycle. However, we all assume and trust that whoever handles the packages wants to complete their jobs, because that is the faith and trust we put in them. For that many employees to to rally around some union loud-mouthed jack-hole, completely diminishes trust between the customers and the delivery person. In this particular instance you can tell there was some of that bad blood, brotherhood nonsense that has nothing to do with us getting our packages. UPS was right to get rid of these lowlifes. There are plenty of other people who want the work that wonk get caught up in union/office politics. Unfortunately, the firings could very well be the start of a huge fight down the road legally between labor unions and UPS.

since they went to contract drivers,,, there is little chance of a union strike. if the strike hits ups fires the drivers for breach of contract.

It is terrible that they would fire all those people. If they get away with it they will be able to edge closer to legal slavery.

So you think it's unreasonable for an employer to be unhappy with a large group of people taking an extra 90 minute "lunch" with no reprisal?

Say, you fired some ***** who's been with you a long time. But he gets the job done, and everyone on the floor likes him. But he's a pain in the arse, hard to deal with, and has an attitude problem with owners/management. And you've been looking for a good reason to fire him. HA! Got him, he's been skimming on the time cards. Good enough, time to go!

Now that he's gone, everyone on the floor is mad about it... they decide collectively to do nothing for almost 2 hours. No printing, no machines running, trimming, laminating... got customers up in the lobby waiting for their prints or whatever. They don't give a crap about whatever little power struggle is going on in the back. They just want their signs. They start demanding their money back, walking out the door and down the street to your competitor. All the while with a story to tell about your little coup de gras that's going on.

What do you do? You squash the insurrection. That's what you do. If they really valued their jobs, and their family's wellbeing, then they'd have kept on doing what they are paid to do. It's not slavery.

I respect your position. I still think UPS is busting the union. Corporations are sociopaths with no conscience, only a singular goal to increase shareholders' profits and senior management's multi million dollar salaries regardless of the consequences.

This is an interesting view of the free enterprise model.
What is the alternative? Government control - at what level?

Yeah, me too.

I think you mean "The World on time, just not at the right place."

I had a package come in and was tracking it, and when it came up that a delivery attempt was made, they would try again the following day. When i got in to the house, no tag on the door, so I went to the other address that gets all my deliveries ( I am at a north maryland address, and thhings have been dropped at maryland ave), an dno call tag.

I called and asked them where they attempted to deliver, ant they tried to tell me the north maryland ave. I asked how do they know, since no call tag was left as proof. They got the local office ( over an hour away) to call me, an dthey told me they were trying to get the driver, but he wasn't answerin ghis phone. He shows up an hour later with my package telling me that he was at north maple ave. Of coursewhen i call the 800 # to complain they tell me that they will have the local office call me...

Seriously? You equate people breaking their contract with the company to the company moving towards slavery? If you had an employee that walked out on his shift, would you hug and kiss them when they came back to work, or would you call them into the office and reprimand them?

I respect your position. I still think UPS is busting the union. Corporations are sociopaths with no conscience, only a singular goal to increase shareholders' profits and senior management's multi million dollar salaries regardless of the consequences.

Busting the union? How'd you get that from the story? The Union has a No Strike Clause in their agreement with UPS. They walked out, collectively. They got fired for violating the clause.

Here's a tip, if you agree not to go on strike and then you walk out, collectively, then you've violated the work agreement and you can be terminated. If your boss told you "If you are late to work, you may be fired" and then you come in late and he fires you, does that make the boss unreasonable?

In the world today where people have little integrity and honest and trust seem to be a distant memory, it's a valuable life lesson for those 100 workers. If you agree to something, then stand tall and honor your agreement.
