So I am trying to have something contour cut in versa works, and the will not
work. It seems like every fifth file is like this. I use the contour cut swatch in
Illustrator and put a stroke around what I need like I always do but sometimes
it does not come through in versa and it is driving me crazy! Any ideas on
what to do about this or what could be causing this problem?

Are you using it with transparency in Illustrator? Drop shadow, etc? If so, that's the cause...

Also make sure the stroke is set to the center and that the weight is .25

That shouldn't make a difference... I routinely forget to change mine from 1 pt to hairline...

It must be the transparencies! What a pain in the arse, I really don't want to have to loose them.

Big Dawg got it right. Its the transparency settings on some of your elements. One way I get around it is... export it as a high quality jpeg and then import it back into the proper space...

Make sure you save it as a different file so you don't lose your original incase you need to edit it down the road.

That should make no difference at all, I routinely use a 1pt stroke on all my contour cuts in VW from Illy

Yeah, what a pain in the ***. It seems like and easy fix for them, but then
again I am no programmer. I ended up just having two files in versa works,
one is the print file, and one is the cut file (print file with transparencies
flattened), and used that when it came time to cut. I just had to make sure
both had identical setup and it worked fine. Thanks All!

Select everything besides the cut line and flatten the transparency. Save the EPS and you have no problems.

I would think it's the same CutContour swatch used in illustrator.
Haven't tried it, but I'm pretty sure its just 100 magenta, spot renamed "CutContour"

I run into color problems when doing this. I have a gradient with 10% opacity,
and when I flatten transparency it ends up totally effed!

HELLO!!i had is same problem!!Let me tell you how to do this real EASY!!!the problem is caused by transparency layers, i also didnt want to loose them either!all you need to do is select the cut contour and the weeding box (if your using one) group them and bring them to the front of the document, then when saving, make sure you select HIGH RESOLUTION & LANGUAGE LEVEL 3,without doing the last 2 steps you will have the same trouble.(this is for illustrator).
Hope this helps! all the best

I always save as a cs EPS file from CS3 and i haven't had no problems.

Make sure you set the stroke weight to .25 and you should be golden.

reddhartgraphics: I owe you a cold one or 30!

That has kicked my butt for years.
Several calls to Roland with no help except to flatten the file.
Then you can't edit it, so I would keep 2 files.
    1 original & 1 flat.

  19. In the Stroke pallett make sure Align is set to "Center".
