So I installed VW 5 on my win 7 os and its asking for to start burning the disc...what do I do?
Use an extractor program like winzip to unpack the iso file onto your computer, then just run the setup from there. An ISO file is a disk image, but you don't need to actually burn a DVD for it

IN WINDOWS 10 you can “mount” an iso file. Which means you can use it as though it already on a dvd and inserted in a dvd drive. If you have a windows 10 computer you can burn the iso to a dvd. Then take the disk, browse to it and complete the process.

you are just running into a couple extra steps.

Download for VW 5 with the updater to 5.5.1 - SP300V should run on 4, but runs better on 5.5.1
I clicke on that file in your email thread. And downloaded it from media fire. I opend the download file and upload the Roland VWmsi file. When I clicked on the newly uploaded icon, it said the application is not installed properly. I repeated the process with the same result. It also said he profiles for CMYK failed to load. I'm fried from trying to figure this all out. Thank you for your help!

You just need to unpack the file using a program like winzp. Unpack it to a new folder on your pc and then use the steup.exe file inside that folder to fully install versaworks. It sounds like you haven't installed it but are just trying to run it from the compressed file. It needs to be installed onto your PC not just copied on there

So, downloading to a desktop icon is not fully installed? Do i create a folder or do I find a folder somewhere, I am not technical, please bear with me Im more of an airbrush guy lol!

No, just the desktop icon isn't installing it. Make a new folder called Versaworks and extract the ISO file to there. You should end up with a list of folders and files as shown on the attached pic.

You will see a file called SETUP.EXE - use this to install it and it will take you through the installation process, which should take a few minutes as the program is quite large.

what is inside a versaworks iso?
are there .cab files?

he would really be better off getting someone to burn a dvd for him, UNINSTALLING EVERYTHING then after a reboot doing a proper install. You and I can extract and install from a flat directory but this is not the way for a newbie to get a good installation.

I imagine he could put this on a flash drive and go to a library and use a computer

FOR SURE if he goes to a UPS store or a KINKOS and says please burn this to a dvd (bring a 5 pack of BLANKS. ) they will do it. he can be using his RIP tomorrow.

I pick up my mail and packages at the local ups store & have watched them burn dvd’s in the past. I believe they charge $12.50/15 minutes of using computer time

Since he got a refurbished windows 7 pc, I wonder if he needs internet to download runtimes, Java or .net framework? There is a hell of a lot of difference depending on what version & flavor the master image is.

So before we go any further here is my setup.
To my left is my gateway with windows 8.1
To my right the newish Dell Windows 7 tower from NewEgg.
The Dell tower came with this tiny jump drive to make it wireless, it sees my router upstairs but I can not get onto the internet for whatever reason.
Sooooo I thought lets try downloading to the Windows 8 tower and follow your directions.
I am soo close to getting these kinks worked out, thanks to All of you!
I think the folder part is confusing me. Make a folder from what and put it where?
Also, I uninstalled the program, ready to reinstall.

The disk image file. Maybe that’s not what he sent. I am on an ipad
so I guessed.
in windows 10 or eleven you extract (uncompress) by right clicking and choose “extract all” (it is built in to operating system.
pin windows 7 you need to install winzip or 7zip. To extract and make the files usable

i assumed he sent an iso. Ignore what I said.
the program need to be downloaded, extracted, installed. The installation runs a rather complex series of scripts copying files, creating dll‘s, registering components, changing settings all over the computer.

depending on how the windows 7 was installed, downloading from microsoft may be part of the process.
all windows 7 installs are not the same

He shouldnt need to. The ISO file is just a compressed version of the standard installation disk ready to burn. When extracted it is exactly the same as the normal installation disk and will run from the setup file.

Just create a new folder like in this video. It doesn't matter where it is, you just need somewhere to extract the files from the ISO to. Once they are extracted to that folder, you then run the SETUP.EXE from within that folder

I know.
I ASSUMED you had sent an ISO.
keep in mind we don’t know who refurbished that pc, or how the windows installation was generated.
microsoft puts stupid restrictions on refurbishers.
i speculate (it’s all I can do) that he might have one of those useless ”windows S” or whatever they called the flavor of windows 7 that wouldn’t let you install anything that doesn’t come from the idiotic “microsoft store”

I think he should remove what he has done so far, reboot, start the process from scratch EITHER FACETIME with one of us, or STOP at any error, post a screen shot and WAIT FOR INSTRUCTION.

he may need to update windows components. We simply don’t know what he bought

For all we know the supplier of the pc may have botched the sysprep process and his user may not have
admin rights.

he should have been finished installing 20 minutes after you posted that file. Obviously something is going wrong.

look at the screenprint
it is an .ISO and windows 7 only works IF he has winzip properly installed
( i imagine he doesn't )
