Had one of the worst vendor experiences of my life today. I'm not one to just throw a vendor under the bus, but this was over the top ridiculous. Be aware. The way this was handled at the branch level is a joke. Here is the email that I just sent to the CEO of the company.

Mr. Hummert,

My name is Gary LeMaster, and I own Circleville Sign and Graphics in Circleville, Ohio. Our main Grimco hub is Columbus, Ohio. Today I had one of the worst vendor experiences that I have ever encountered with your company.

Let me preface this by saying that I realize we are not your largest customer. At one point I believe we were spending close to $20k/year with you, however about 18 months ago we had some terrible customer service and I took much of our business to Fellers and Tubelite. Over the past 6 months I have begun using Grimco again for substrate, and some vinyl products.

Today, however, not only makes me not want to ever use your company again, but to do everything in my power to make sure no one else does either.

I placed a relatively small order last week for a few sheets of coro, and some magnetic material. No big deal - it will be on the Friday delivery. Well, Friday rolls around, and by 4:30 I still haven't seen a driver, even though I was told that someone would DEFINITELY be there no later than 4:30. I get a call from your courier dispatch at about 4:45 stating that they were at least 30 minutes out. Obviously, this wasn't acceptable, so we made arrangements for a driver to come this morning instead (even though this puts me 2 days behind on my project). The driver was to be here at 9:30. I came in early to make sure that we didn't miss each other. At 10:45 I finally called the Columbus branch, relatively frustrated that I still had not received my product. I quickly get a call from the dispatcher saying that the driver has been sitting in my parking lot since 9:30am. Say what? No - he hasn't. I got here at 9:15, turned on all the lights, unlocked all the doors. He wasn't here and has never tried to come in. 30 seconds later he strides in to the shop as if it's no care in the world that he has tried to BS both myself and his boss. At this point, he explains to me WHILE I AM ON THE PHONE WITH A CLIENT, that I will need to help him carry things in. At this point, my blood begins to boil. I tell him that isn't going to happen, that it is NOT "no big deal" that he is over 3 days late with my product, and that he can damn well carry the stuff in himself. He glares at me, proceeds to go get the product, and that's when the fun begins.

He comes back in and begins yelling at me, telling me that "no one speaks to me that way!". At this point, I tell him forcefully, but calmly to get out of my shop. He refuses and continues to get louder. I tell him again to "get out of my shop, before I throw you out". This was said rather loudly. At this point, your courier tells me that he is calling 911, because I threatened him. He STILL refuses to leave my shop. I turn my back and he finally leaves, but refuses to leave my property. It takes me calling both the Columbus office and the courier dispatch to get him off of my property.

After he finally leaves I was able to speak with Nick in Columbus. To Nick's credit he remained calm, and that kept me calmer than I would normally be. I explained to him that this was wholly unacceptable and that I expected immediate action, and that something be done to fix this and compensate me for the time I was out, the intense trouble and stress the incident caused, etc. He assured me that I would be taken care of and the situation would be taken care of as well.

15 minutes ago I got a call from one of your salespeople in Columbus. She was very nice. HOWEVER, I was given the obligatory "I'm sorry", and nothing more. It wasn't even offered to me that I would have the delivery fee I was charged refunded. NOTHING.

At this point, I expect much more that THAT, and am insulted that any reasonable person believes that this is sufficient. As I told your employees in Columbus, the way this is handled will determine whether I even spend another dime with Grimco.

Thank you, and I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Gary LeMaster

Wow, that sucks!
All that crap to put up with for some cheapo substrates too!

I had been considering placing some orders with grimco, I've never used them for more than one or two items so far, but I think I'll just stick with my regular suppliers...

I have to say that this comes to no surprise sadly... I love Grimco and most of their products, but when it comes to delivery they seem to be lacking. I have had an order come in as late as 7PM!!!! An hour and a half after we close shop. I have had a few things come in damaged, and not come in at all. Sadly, at least at our branch, the delivery company is actually subbed out, which I am sure doesn't help the situation. But I wish Grimco would get their stuff together to have a better delivery policy.

Wow. I'm pretty sure Grimco Cares and they will be on top of it.

It looks like their issue is the courier service. With an attitude like that it's most likely not the first time.

they recently opened a branch here in mcallen,tx.
the warehouse is managed by a 3rd party, i believe.

a few days ago i stopped by to pick up some coroplast.
the attitude the fools running the warehouse had was not the best.
i made a polite question and got rude answer.
i felt like punching the mofo.
i calmed down myself by eating a grapefruit a had lo!!

Art! Hot and fresh.
Seems to be a sign of the times I'm afraid. Sorry to hear that grimco is like that lately. I've dropped 2 suppliers (one with a 20+ year history with this company) for service issues. Nothing as bad as that ... just the usual 'sorry, I don't have oracal 751 red in stock, it will take 3 weeks to get that in'

Heck, I don't even deal with grimco anymore since I moved from orlando since I can't go in person to pick the stuff up ... last time I ordered from grimco I got some cintra and I must have been given the top sheets cause they were crappy and torn up and driver said 'were like that way when they got loaded on the truck'

pass on that again.

next time that happens call 911 and set the phone down...pd will be there in a few minutes to escort him out...

meantime, you need to consider arming yourself and training yourself to use it under duress...unfortunatly pd will be there in a few minutes, but that crazy dude might go postal on you and your staff

man... that sucks... Grimco here in Denver are freaking Boss!!
They deliver twice a day... and when i miss their delivery guy... most of the time they'll
just send out one of their own guys in their personal car to deliver it... for free...

I have never had a problem with them... they always take care of things.... guess it's which warehouse you order from...

I've nearly always had good experiences with them, however I only order with UPS delivery since they don't have trucks out my way.

I imagine many of these companies which will provide delivery service should maybe screen their picks of drivers a little more closely.

We generally have no problems with our various delivery guys, but when we do, they fix the problem and go above and beyond what I was thinking to solve it. Recently we got 25 sheets of 3mil masked PVC in and some were damaged. Called the company and he had a guy out the next morning with replacements for all, said whatever we needed to use, we would not be charged for in the meantime. I don't think it has to do with volume.... they're just a great bunch of guys and know what it takes to keep your business, no matter how small it might be.

If nothing less, if your story is anything remotely close to the truth... that driver should be fired immediately. No one representing a company you are purchasing from has any right to mouth off to you. They are out in the field... that's all...... making frickin' deliveries. Sounds to me that driver had other issues and you got caught in the crossfire. While he was dialing 911, I would've been calling the Police to remove him from the building and escorting him off your property. Then again, I'm like you and enjoy a face-off.

And tell Miss I'm Sorry to go pound sand. They know what they have to do, but if they can get away with a soft voice saying sorry and you fall for it.... well, they're off the hook. Tell them you never wanna see that driver within 500 yards of your property, you're expecting a formal letter of apology along with some kinda pleasing items to wet your whistle.

That is my expectation as well. I still haven't received a reply.

Is this not a symptom of "I want to buy as cheap as possible"?.....Cheaper prices has to translate into crappier service....Now I do not excuse the "rudeness" but you do get what you pay for......

Yeah Gary, that really sucks. We use the Columbus branch regularly and have never had any major problems like that. And they're usually really good if problems to arise, they've always taken care of us. Hopefully someone there will get you taken care of.
