Dear HP-Latex users suffering from „plasticizer migration“,
Grainy prints are a phenomenon that returns again and again on HP-Latex systems. The rumor that this problem is caused by plasticizer migration was started by HP and is still used (see various topics on this forum) but is absolutely...
On the European Avery Website you find several profiles for ValueJet 1204/FlexiSign/Avery MPI 1005 SC EZ. Go to http://avery-eu.color-base.com/ Colors might be a bit different from the US ones though.
If you want to laminate vinyl on vinyl cold lamination leaves micro air inclusions showing up as a silvering effect. Laminating at about 100 F will deal with this.
sorry for the late reply, this one slipped my attention. Thereason you see the water color in the pate but not in the text is that in those areas where you see it happening the amount of ink is much higher in the reddish/brown color (you will have serious levels of CMY here) than in the red...
The monomeric plasticizer will migrate to the polymeric plasticized film. So you will see excessive shrinkage of the monomeric film over time and possibly swelling of the polymeric film. Your adhesive of the laminate will soften and probably that of the base film too. You might see Separation...
The images show an high flow of the inks indicating that you are depositing too much ink for the printer to dry. This can either be the fact that you are using one profile on 2 different printers (probably a VP 540 profile) or the heater of your RS 640 is not functioning well. Try to find...
Check the media temperature across the width. You are probably having a lower temperature on the left side which is causing the banding. Roland heaters often show these kind of problems.
Assuming you are printing bi-directional you are probably printing a little too fast for the ink to dry. The time between 2 layers of ink is the shortest on that side. It could also be the heating of your Printer; do check the media surface temperature over the width with an IR Thermometer.
General remark about drying of solvent printed pressure sensitive vinyls:
Most solvents rapidly migrate through the film into the adhesive, specially ecosolvent inks.
For proper drying 2 things are important:
air movement over the surface to enhance evaporation and reduce the solvent...
Both films are made from the same formulation so the only difference is the amount of vinyl you are buying. It is most probably the same film as used for transparents in the other cast-series (at least that is the case in Europe), only a difference in thickness.
The 4 years durability compared...
Although it is difficult to tell from some low res images some information is obvious:
The 'tracks' mentioned are visible is both the test print as the final result
Distance between the tracks in the test print is much smaller than in the final result
The colors in the final result are much...
After having all your nozzles going (if it doesn't get better as shown try soaking in some acetone for a short while) you should adjust your heads to get rid of the overspray. Procedures can be found here: http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5297373/JV3-160SP/JV3_Head_Replacement_0605.pdf and...
Todd,
You best take the laminate version of the material you are printing on. That way you avoid problems with different shrinkage levels and plasticizer migration.
good luck
