  1. heavy duty metal sign blanks

If they're wall mounts, you could use 1/8" polycarbonate with a second surface print.
  2. Applying Metal to Vinyl

Stud mounting would be my first inclination (I prefer to over-engineer as opposed to having parts fall off). You could also use VHB with dabs of silicone, provided you prep the letter backs correctly and the vinyl is applied correctly (so doesn't become a fail point).
  3. Need Help Flexi Starter 12

If you're asking if the Starter version of the program has the welding feature, then- according to SAi- the answer is yes.
  4. What do you consider "color matching"......?

Yeah, that's pretty much unacceptable. We run five Seikos and an HP. 186 Red (for example) is the same, no matter which it comes from.
  5. Typical safety codes for large interior acrylic displays with stand-offs?

As StarSign said, I haven't seen anything either. I'd have to imagine something that size and that thickness is going to break at some point, though, from flexing- unless the engineer actually though to include a center support?
  6. 3D Design

I always figured a production drawing (what I call 'em, anyway) was a standard part of the plan set for sign manufacturing. Not a big deal if you're strictly decals or post & panel, but required when you're doing anything with multiple components. It's a part of what I do for every complex...
  7. Question UV Printing on MDO

Don't know if it would help in this case, but I have good luck cleaning substrates with Rapid Tac. My other suggestion is to hammer into the people who handle the boards they're not to touch 'em without wearing gloves- either butyl or cloth.
  8. Plastic source for engraving and laser

A good router (if you have one) can also engrave. Just throwing it out there. If you're getting an engraver, we've been happy with our Xenetechs. I personally liked the Gravograph at a previous shop, but the operator hated it.
  9. what would you do??

I may have misunderstood your question the first time. You can use EnRoute to cut printed substrates, and it should be no problem to export your contours if they're vectors. EnRoute supports most vector formats. In fact, if you're using FlexiSign with EnRoute, "Send File to EnRoute" used to be...
  10. what would you do??

No. EnRoute is CNC only. While its design capabilities are greatly improved from previous eras, I wouldn't do anything but the simplest layouts with it. For nesting, routing, lasering, or other machining, though- it's a great tool. I pointed it out only because it's an SAi product, same as...
  11. what would you do??

Also, if you look at their web page, scroll all the way to the bottom- that's where the "traditional license" option is.
  12. what would you do??

We use EnRoute (also an SAi product) and I really like the subscription model for it, because it's always up-to-date. I can completely understand why some people don't, though (Adobe's "improvements" spring immediately to mind).
  13. what would you do??

Flexi still has traditional license options. You don't have to do the cloud version unless you want to.
  14. what would you do??

If you're looking at buying SignLab, why not just upgrading to the current version of Flexi? Is there a huge price difference?
  15. Rush Fees: do you charge them?

I've always been a fan of rush fees. It weeds out who really needs something and who doesn't. Decades ago, in different industry, the owner of the company I worked fir had a "rush fee is 20% or $100 minimum, whichever is more" policy. No customer was exempt (even the paper mills that ordered...
  16. Looking for a substrate at .050" thickness that can be backlit

I'm not sure, offhand, who we get it from (our purchasing agent is out today). I would imagine a sample would be available. The rolls we get are either 54" or 60" x 100'
  17. Looking for a substrate at .050" thickness that can be backlit

We use a material from Fuji called Excellite for these. It's comparable to Kodak's Translight. It's thin and perfect for those coolers. Otherwise, you could try super-thin acrylic.
  18. Need Help Custom Neon - Ineterior

We have all of one shop (that I can think of) in our area that does neon. I would suggest trying to steer them to faux neon, which (depending on your capabilities) you might be able to do yourself. Doing a quick Google search on "neon bending Texas" turned up 16 results. Good luck.
