  1. Taking the next step in printers...

Yes! From any equipment manufacturer. They're talking "laboratory", ideal conditions- conditions that don't exist in any shop that I've ever seen.
  2. Suggestions Issues with peeling vinyl on signs

Also, shelf life plays a part (2 years for IJ35). The "life" of IJ35 is 5 years. Unprinted. Once you print it and laminate it, that warranty won't be good for much more than 2 or 3 additional years (couldn't track down a specific number). Being MCS certified gives you the most "robust" backing...
  3. Camper half wrap questions

If you've never done anything like this, maybe sub it out to an installer that has and learn from them by helping them? Otherwise, whatever you figure it'll take you (time and material wise) you could double it, or price it as is and chalk up any loss as a learning curve? Been a while since I...
  4. Bit cooling when cutting aluminum

In your specific instance, I'd stick with the way you're doing it. You wouldn't see any benefit by switching. To your specific questions: - Yes, the vinyl could possibly gum up the bit. Usually, though, no. - Yes, you'd have to clean the misting fluid off- and make sure you're not screwing up...
  5. Talk about "upping" your game...

There is a "desktop" waterjet. And, compared to the price of a full-sized one...
  6. Need Help need advice/anyone know about A3 UV Flatbed printer

Whatever you do, stay far away from Direct Color. Unless they've completely revamped their entire operation from the ground up in the past four years, their product is garbage and their "support" is laughable.
  7. Question Possible Failed Matte Vinyl or Can it be Cleaned????

About 12 years ago, had a local dealer bring in a car to have us put a new decal on it after the owner had body work done, with that matte black on the hood being what was replaced. I don't recall the specifics of the branding on the liner, but I could tell from the feel it was cheap vinyl- and...
  8. Sign Blanks

Grimco probably has pre-printed versions of what you want, as would Vulcan.
  9. Need Help Anyone know where to get the material to make this curb sign..looks cool!!!

Thanks. Maybe when I have time, I'll give it another go.
  10. Need Help Anyone know where to get the material to make this curb sign..looks cool!!!

What kind of printer? We tried on our Seikos with solvent inks (wouldn't work on any of the five), and on our HP FB750 (looked terrible, if I recall).
  11. Vinyl by the Yard

Reece and Fellers do by the yard, as well.
  12. Where to get fancy ADA signage?

You are correct. I've read probably 40% of those 300-whatever pages in the ADA, and re-read the sign specs multiple times to confirm things over the years, and nowhere does it restrict the background to solid colors. Now, since not being prohibited and being acceptable are two different things...
  13. Installing 4x4 realtor signpost

YES! I always cringed when I saw those orders, because I knew it was a money loser unless there's a system in place that, basically, says "take it or leave it." I remember palm readers being the same way.
  14. UV printed braille on HP FB550

This. In my experience, No matter what the salespeople try to tell you with one of these printers (or it's "equal"), they're ridiculously time consuming and the dots and letters are fragile (easy to pick off). Get an engraver and pay the raster licensing fee. Use the HP to print the fancy...
  15. Optically Clear Laminate for Window Perf?

8518 may be gloss laminate, but it is not promoted as optically clear. There's a difference. 3M's optically clear laminate is 8914.
  16. Finecut 9 and New Large Artboards in Adobe Illustrator

Well, that's what I'm running, and it's still limited to the "canvas" size- 227" square. Did some checking, it appears to be 24.2 is where it's implemented.
  17. Finecut 9 and New Large Artboards in Adobe Illustrator

I'm curious about the "larger canvas" aspect of your question. As far as I can determine, Illustrator still insists on the arbitrary 227" x 227" limits. I have longed for Adobe to "borrow" the scaling feature from CorelDraw that allows you to use "full-sized" dimensions while doing scale...
  18. Direct to wall inkjet

I can remember hearing about that tech about 15 years ago (possibly more). Would work great for a flat wall, I guess, but I don't see it being able to handle any sort of curve at all, and I'd think going around corners would be a pain. You also couldn't get all the way to the ceiling with it.
  19. Which software for Summa D60 and Vista

Yeah, but Win 95 mostly worked. Vista was a pain in the ass from the launch.
  20. Which software for Summa D60 and Vista

A laptop still running Vista... that's something. Your friend might want to go to TigerDirect or somewhere similar and buy an inexpensive, up-to-date computer. It's bound to have more power, processing, and RAM, and not be terribly expensive. Plus, it would be up-to-date.
