  1. Okay, I think I have a winner here..................................................................................

Schools have been dumbed down a lot, so I kind of get "part" of what is being said. Everyone is PC - You're not allowed to fail a grade.... You could literally not understand anything, and they'll throw you into the next grade so you learn more stuff you wont be able to understand. They'll give...
  2. Choosing a - HP Latex 630W or Roland TrueVIS VG3-64 eco-solvent?

We have the 700w for white. With overcoat - and yes it can be turned off. Weve also had 3x 560s, 360, and a 110 - all those you couldn't turn overcoat off.... Never had an issue. It's nice that you can turn it off, but we never had an overlam fail without turning it off on our older printers...
  3. Choosing a - HP Latex 630W or Roland TrueVIS VG3-64 eco-solvent?

We run both latex and solvent in our shop for the past 8 years.... Exclusively solvent before we got our latex. The old owners were like you, and afraid latex wasn't as good as solvent - back in the 260 days that may have been true... But 99% of what we print now is on our latex, I've had...
  4. News Save $ on JetBest Ink

Buying directly from China is risky. I buy ALOT from China - the same vendor can send you legit stuff, then knockoff the next shipment. I've had times where I had to throw out $1000 worth of product because it didn't meet the spec. The problem with Chinese goods is their quality control -...
  5. _

Nope... That was eastern Canada, were western. We used to do all of the countries license plates but lost that job to the east a decade ago. We still print (or did) all the insurance decals with expiration dates and stuff.... That's what the province canceled. I heard the non viewable...
  6. _

Our company lost 2 contracts within 2 years with a total 1.5 million combined in sales. (Nothing we did, license plate validation decals which we produced were phased out as well as another big contract) 2021 sucked...we went from extremely profitable to losing 30k. 2022 we broke even, still...
  7. The longer I'm in this business the more I believe that nobody who runs for office should be allowed to have the job.

It's kind of like house of cards. You don't get into the political positions you're gunning for without being corrupt. Whether it's taking bribes, doing some quid pro quo, Or just outright being corrupt.. I don't believe any politician has clean hands. I've always viewed it as you vote for...
  8. Contracting with another sign shop

There's a company in our area that only does installs... They don't produce signs, they don't sell to customers... They just show up in an unbranded bucket truck and do installs. We keep them busy... Sometimes they're a month out from being able to take a job that they're so busy. Then we...
  9. HP fb700 blue print heads overspray problem

Looks like a bad cyan ink cart to me... That's what we had a half dozen times. Purge your head / ink reservoir...put a new cyan in, fill the ink lines and try again. I thought they fixed this issue... But it still seems to keep cropping up.
  10. Question Acceptable size for banner

We've ran across that too. Usually in our images for canvas.... Our pdf files we resize the art board to fit the graphics (there's a hotkey you can setup) to match the graphics and we never have white - the edge of images people send us for canvas sometimes does..... We usually just crop a hair...
  11. Question Acceptable size for banner

It's easy in onyx. We have a quickset setup to ahtonadd 1" of bleed - auto add a fold line at the edge of the print, and auto add a fold line at the edge of the 1" bleed (mirrored) And add grommets every 24". Now you just load your artwork with no crop marks / bleed, and everything is auto...
  12. Question Acceptable size for banner

I have Onyx setup to put a dotted line at the edge of the print, and then another dotted line with one inch of bleed past that edge of the print. It makes cutting and folding so much quicker.. If we were doing a 36-in print on a 38-in roll we probably won't have any lines. The back ham does...
  13. 3m etched vinyl won't pick up with transfer tape

Yes... 180. Whoops. We pretty much fold the backing paper right over itself and pull. With such a sharp angle, it doesnt matter how thing your text is... The paper will push it into the premask.
  14. 3m etched vinyl won't pick up with transfer tape

Let it down in the floor with the premask facing the floor. Grab the backing paper and Pull it off at a 90 degree angle.. you'll have to go slow, but with this method it's easy to not screw up,.and we've never found anything too thin doing it that way.
  15. Question Acceptable size for banner

You guys are your Nominal sizing crack me up. If you bought a 4x8 piece of acyrlic and it came in 47 x 95" from 1 supplier, but all other suppliers it came in 48 x 96 for the same price.... Who would you buy from? Nominal sizing isn't a standard in our industry... 2x4s and other wood it is...
  16. Question Acceptable size for banner

Honestly the customer would probably never care of you mention / be upfront about it. I'd never just do it though.... Because you may get away with it 9/10 times, but one time the customer will be blocking something that's 36" and that 1 " will be a painful redo. 38" rolls are made for 36...
  17. Question Acceptable size for banner

You're asking if you can produce 35" banners when the client asked and paid for 36? No.... The client ordered 36, and should get 36. Now nothing is stopping you from asking if the client will accept 35.... But banner is so cheap, the diff between a 38" roll and a 54" roll is probably $30...
  18. Need Help Any Suggestions on Laminators

Our rs came, and we love it. We went from a Seal 54 Base... Which we've had for 10 years and had someone not knifed it, would for another 10 - But even comparing it to Seal... the RS Is a huuuuge upgrade. It takes us under 5 minutes to laminate a roll - That includes loading, setting up the...
  19. hp 700 vs epson r5070 yearly expenses and recommendations

Paper is the one media I don't have it suck in. I think the paper heats up, moisture leaves it and that's what causes the problem. Fortunately paper is cheap.... So if you waste 1-2 ft every load it's not the end of the world... So I just tell it not to suck it up, cut it off at the top and...
