  1. Installation rate vs man hours

Square foot pricing is a tool. I bounce known square foot pricing off a labor x rate pricing all the time to make sure I'm not leaving any money on the table. Say the average sqft pricing for a van wrap install is 250sqft x $3 = $750 and your labor rate is $75 an hour and you can do them in 10...
  2. No need of typography knowledge

The fabrications guys were in a hurry and put the backs on the wrong side of the can. Someone towards the end noticed it, but because of the deadline and costs to remake it, they pushed it through hoping the customer wouldn't notice... The customer never mentioned it so they moved on to the next...
  3. Cutting Magnetic material

I always considered magnets and banners as short-term items and I wouldn't worry about longevity. They will get lost in the car wash before the ink fades. A bigger problem is to make sure you give them care and cleaning instruction so they don't get mad when their paint gets damaged because they...
  4. Font Help Is this a font or hand drawn

It's based on Desire fonts. You will have to sort through all of them for the characters you need
  5. UPS vs. FedEx?

It would get better if the Federal Government would stop the additional unemployment payments. I am sure the problems with both FedEx and UPS have to do with record levels of delivery and not enough employees. Everywhere I go they can't find workers to fill jobs.
  6. Installation rate vs man hours

Everywhere I have been there was a labor rate and we charged the same for everyone. A seasoned employee gets paid more than a newer employee but the seasoned one takes less time, a newer employee takes twice as long but gets paid half as much. Either way, your profitability is similar. I don't...
  7. Odd Surface..............................................................

I think Lexal would be thick enough to hold the letters up until it dries, add a few pieces of foam tape so you can sleep at night, and your good to go. If you are providing the material, Gatorfoam would be my choice because it is more rigid, will cut cleaner, and less likely to get damaged...
  8. Lettering a trailer -- Need advice

Use isopropyl alcohol instead of denatured. Denatured is basically grain alcohol that they add some form of petroleum distillate to make it undrinkable. Unfortunately, every brand will add something different and they can leave an oily residue.
  9. Epson S80600 and UPS backups

Probably because the cheap APC's are square waves, the top middle is simulated sign waves and your AC plug is pure sign waves.
  10. Epson S80600 and UPS backups

Why would you plug the heater in? who cares if the heater goes out, it will stay hot enough to help cure your prints for 10 to 15 minutes. Just protect your printer and get enough to get through the current print job if the power goes out.
  11. Streaks in Frosted Window Film

It will go away over time. If it is warm or in the sun, it may take a day. If it's cold it could take up to a week. If you look closely you can see it with cut vinyl from the backside. Your pictures are on the extreme side. It looks like a majority of the marks are from the tip of your...

  14. Some things won't combine in Corel

This exact same problem drove me nuts for years until someone on the Corel forums told me about reversing subpaths.
  15. vinyl residue remover

Rapid Remover is probably your safest bet. Xylol works too but it can cause nerve damage overtime and the fumes are bad for you...
  16. Need Help Replaced encoder strip, and encoder board, still getting black lines and bars printing What next??

I don't know what that is, but the encoder tells the print head where it is not when to fire the nozzles. All the encoder problems I have seen have affected all the heads/colors equally. Because the blue is perfectly aligned, I think you have a problem with a ribbon cable or electronics.
  17. Question 3M Cast vinyl shortage?!?!

3M will never tell you the truth. I have heard most of these stories and I will add a personal one. My buddy was trying to get his hand on 8 rolls of 3552. even tried direct with 3M and they said they could. Next thing he knows all 3552 is a no-go if you are printing with solvents and they...
  18. Yellow turns green in sunlight.

Always proof colors in the intended environment and if you are going to laminate it, make sure you are proofing it with the laminate. Some laminates can shift colors towards yellow. On big jobs, you can even have your customer come by and sign off on the printed proof for CYA. Also, know that...
  19. Best resource for vehicle outline templates

Stacy When we did cut vinyl door logos we used templates and didn't measure and never had a problem with them not fitting. I guess it because we never crowded the margins. The door could be off several inches in both dimensions and there was still plenty of room. The only problem we had was...
  20. Any opinions for affordable car wraps?

On all jobs, it is a good idea to think about the total cost of the job including removal. Any media that is hard to remove and/or leaves adhesive is an added cost that you need to factor in. 3552 is a one-year clean removable material we use for buses. With 3552 you could remove a whole car in...
