  1. Treasure trove of sign textbooks

Priceless...thanks round man, really appreciate it. I have some old sign books and some really old sign books but always eager to study any book on signs or related trades. It can only add to one's knowledge and scope. I could rave on how most newbies and upstarts don't know a thing about our...
  2. How to proceed

We get 50% deposit up front, they then get a layout using their artwork. If they have no artwork, then it's $200 an hour design time.
  3. GS6000 PMS Color Matching

If Dogvan is thinking of moving over to a different RIP, Ergosoft Rip has a similiar feature built in to it...
  4. What does your shop smell like?

Salesmen & reps...anyone know of a good repellant?
  5. Substrate choice?

Reverse print on clear in vertical panels then lam with white through the laminator. I backmounted it to the polycarb dry by hand. I wouldn't use easyapply or any air release vinyl as you don't want any adhesive marks, silvering or patterns through the graphic. Installed with stainless allen...
  6. Quick logo

Beautiful...might just check your shadows, logo and lettering appear to be casting to opposite sides. May just be my eyes ...
  7. Color Profile and Color Correction Question

These are observations from my experience: If you don't have profile making equipment I suggest this. Pick what you consider your best profile for vinyl and use that for all your vinyl, pick your best banner profile and use that for all your banner, etc, etc. You may have a couple more for...
  8. Color Matching

I use a Spectrolino spectophotometer to match colours from almost anything...easy. Same thing can be done with an i1, Barbieri etc. Colour accuracy on output depends on what inkset you're running of course.
  9. Substrate choice?

Can't release pics ( I know, I know...but some of the companies we do work for are really touchy ) but what to look for is roll polycarbonate that has a satin face so it's anti glare. It's also used here on some traffic signage. Haven't a clue where to find it over there. The type we used is...
  10. Substrate choice?

I don't know your budget but we just did a similiar thing, 7' x 30'. We used clear polycarb 1/4" thick that comes in a 100' roll with marr resistant satin face, backmounted the graphics and taped & s/steel fixtures to the wall. Easy install, rolled right over the bumpy gyprock...
  11. 5" lighted sign rule????

Where stuck with a 6" 'can' as standard over here so tubes end up only 2 1/2" away from the face in a double sided sign. We don't have any problems whatsoever with uneven illumination, even using tri-phosphors. With large pylon signs i like to fab a 12" - 15" can only so as to get a 4" -6"...
  12. 5" lighted sign rule????

Standard lightbox signs (not 'slimline') over here, which are mostly double sided are usually made from 6" aluminium extrusion, which puts the tubes only 2 1/2" away from the face. Single sided boxes have the tubes 4 1/2" -5" away from the face, depending on construction. The faces are usually...
  13. Hello, Hello

    Welcome from Sydney...
  14. Side Layout...

I see where you're going with this but I don't see "cheese'...I see white paint or plastic....even if it was yellow, it still doesn't look like cheese....too symmetrical.
  15. screw up factor

Way less than 5%...if you're running at 20% that's unacceptable! Where's the screwups? Pricing, measure, design, print, lamination, application, cutting, fabrication, painting, assembly or installation? I'm curious. We gotta help you get that % down! Do you have any hair left or pulled it...
  16. Your website?

A signdesigner designing a website is the same thing as a webdesigner designing a sign...sure they can both do it, but it usually shows. SEO is another story, anyone can study up if they have, or make enough time. Implementing it into your site effectively and maintaining it is another story...
  17. Why sell equipment and not shop?

No, why would I? The numbers you stated add up. If I was looking for something...and if it checked out, I'd seriously consider it.
  18. Why sell equipment and not shop?

    Because nobody will buy it?
  19. Anyone having this problem-GS6000

Great news...sad thing is that if a company actually stands behind their product, makes good any faults and provides good service we are shocked. On another point, I wasn't suggesting printing a gutter strip is going to solve any ink issues, rather give forewarning. It's just nice to see all...
  20. Anyone having this problem-GS6000

We've had one GS6000 for 18 months and added another 6 months ago, running Ergosoft Rip, never had a problem...not one dropout, clogged nozzle, ruined print or take-up reel problems, nothing. The things are a dream.
