  1. GS6000 - Logo Length Not Matching

No you don't waste your expensive vinyl, you use a leader from scrap or have one on a core that you take up to the vinyl. Letting it print down to the take up means it has no tension from the front so your print length is far more likely to be different. It's not just the epson, I've used this...
  2. GS6000 - Logo Length Not Matching

If you need critical matchup as in paneled pieces always use a leader to reach the take up before printing and make sure the media lever is pushed all the way down. I had some problems with panels lining up at first but since using a leader no problems at all.
  3. Are big names over rated ?

Are you serious?...don't even consider a chinese printer unless you like heartache and headache...complete junk. I'd rather have a second hand big name printer or nothing than a chinese one.
  4. anyone know how to turn off the anchor tool?

You have to keep clicking on one of the nine boxes like a madman...I had the same problem only yesterday, couldn't get rid of the anchor. Only when I persistently kept clicking did it release the anchor.
  5. broken 1/16th endmil in 1/8' acrylic

Your speeds were far too high, about x5 too high! Those little bits even though spinning at 18000 rpm don't have much surface speed at the cutter. If you have a mister it helps to blow just the air over the tool on acrylic but with water will give you a better edge. We do a fair bit of...
  6. Graphic Design School OR ???

It's quite simple really, as with everything in life...if you want it enough you will make it happen. As others have said, design school will give you the basics, layout skills, how to choose typestyles and colour theory, but you can learn this from books & the internet...if you read enough...
  7. 50% Deposit

It's 50% down and payment on completion. I don't care who they are. Only exception to this rule is we have some national and multi-national companies that pay no deposit but are on strict 30 days and they pay up on time, everytime. One company has been with us for 25 years, another about 10...
  8. Almost to bed....

I know what you're saying here, I'm the same. Once I start to make toolpaths/cutting files I see things that I missed and I'll tweak here and make a change there and it can make all the difference. My own designs aren't set in concrete, far from it. I design fast and rough. I learned a long...
  9. Almost to bed....

First impression looks great but if I must nitpic and it is nitpicking as the design can stand on it's own as it is... I like the colours. I'd have a bit more space either side of the name to negate some of the negative space caused by the "L" it's throwing the name to the left...you don't...

  11. Do You Kern?

    Thanks for the insight.
  12. Do You Kern?

Yes bob, I do agree with your last comments. This is more like the response I expected from an experienced typesetter. I know the 'rules', but there are always exceptions. I was going to rave on about negative space being just as or more important as positive space. How the trend today is...
  13. Do You Kern?

We've been through this before bob and you are still confused... "The word kern is a cognate of corner. In the days when all type was cast metal, a corner was notched to a consistent height on one or both sides of a letter-piece. Such notched pieces were only set against one another, not...

  16. The Old Man and the Pond

    yeah...that's a good one.
  17. Never doing that again.

Expect a call from them soon asking for some hands on how to run the new printer...
  18. New Cards

I'd use the bottom left one with contact info on face of card. You can put other stuff on the back but don't assume anyone will even bother to look on the back. If they have your card in a card indexer and have to pull it out or read it upside down to check the back, you've lost, it's too easy...

    ...nice!
