Client supplies a psd file via dropbox. File is 300 inches at 300 dpi. HUGE! First thing I do is "downsample" it. Oh yeah, did I mention the file was just text! And yes, the larger the file the longer it takes to RIP.
As far as proofs go I often use 8bit png around 800px wide x whatever it...
300dpi is overkill. We usually don't send prints higher than 150dpi. Select the bitmap then choose Bitmap/Resample from the top menu. Another thing we do when exporting for print, if exporting as tiff, is set the compression type to LZW Compression. This will cut the file save down tremendously...
I didn't exactly come from the sign industry but been doing it for nearly 17 years now. I never really caught on to numerical measurements alone. To me a label of 12 x 18 is the same as 18 x 12. I will always insist on the use of "w" and "h" no matter what numbers are used. Although "portrait"...
We use that one too. On simple rounds/ovals nothing different. We try to stick to rounded corners on squares/rectangles. On complex shapes we'll first do a regular "Non-half cut" then have an offset plot line for the half cut. We then pull that little bit off. Decals come out clean but the...
There is a series of a macros that I use often that will perform this but still only works for 1 shape at a time.
Select shape A or group A that you want to move
Shift select the shape you wish to align to and either hit left/right/top/bottom macro icon
Default is always either top corner or...
I don't. At the time we purchased the Mimaki bundle we had the choice to use the plug-in for Corel or Illustrator. Of course the most logical choice was Corel. Didn't think much about it since. At that time we only had an older version of illy (maybe CS4). I would assume that it is compatible but...
Yes, if just 1 line of text one can input into the physical ht box but what are you going to do for a whole paragraph? Sure you could start by typing 1 line, make your font choice then put in the desired height then type the rest. And if the customer decides to change the font? Now what? I...
We do a lot of boat registration numbers that by law have to be of a legible font AND 3" letter height. If you type it out and use the text size input box in corel and type 3" and hit enter. that doesn't make a 3" letter height. You have to look at the physical dimension.
Been a complaint in the sign industry for years for both Corel users and illustrator. SignLab has it right but I don't particularly like SignLab and we no longer have that capability.
There is a nifty macro available for Corel that will size the text according to the height you input. It's...
Yep, pretty much how we roll but no cloud. Just drop prints right into the Flexi "Hot Folder" and our Print Tech handles it from there.
Never a problem with outlines & pdf
You're exporting and then using Flexi to print? I hope you mean exporting directly to Flexi Production Manager for print. No need to open in Flexi and send to print.
It's the annual start of little league baseball season here. 50 teams. Usually around 30 "team" banners & 30 "sponsor" banners. 1.5 designers. Banners are all hand hemmed and 6 grommets each. Sponsor signs are the same except they also get wind holes. All to be done before opening day on 8...
There ought to be a type of communal garden whereby "members" tend to it and in return get to harvest just for their needs. Maybe something like his does exist. I have a very small lot in a somewhat urban neighborhood. I have a section of raised beds and various pots I grow veggies in but I'd...
