  1. Inside your retail shop, lobby or customer area

We've recently had our showroom remodeled with new flooring, desks and such. We've added custom printed wall graphics and have plans to hang some sample signs, plastic lettering, brushed alum letters, bronze plaques, aircraft photos, acrylic military emblems, and maybe a pull up banner or two...

RIP is hardwired to printer, files are dropped to a RIP Station hot folder over our network.
  4. Question HELP with Mimaki Contour Cutting...

What size are your runs? Reflective vinyl is pretty heavy so longer runs are going to be problematic. We try to keep under 12ft. Make sure your pinch wheels are cleaned, heavier material has a tendency to slip. We don't have any problems reading reg mark on reflective. Reg marks are roughly 1" x...

  7. Contour Cutting Help!!! (Mimaki Printer/GCC Puma Plotter)

Sorry can't be much help other than stated earlier. We use an HP printer and a Mimaki plotter. All reg marks & cut lines are set up within coreldraw using my self made macros then exported out as pdf to a "Hot" folder. The hot folder is basically a print que that our Print Tech uses to nest jobs...
  8. Contour Cutting Help!!! (Mimaki Printer/GCC Puma Plotter)

How big are your reg marks? Sometimes making larger marks will help. Another thing to try is hold a fingernail on the side of the media too see how bad it "walks"or "skews" as it tries to read the marks. If it's walking a good distance (over 1/4") you might try purposely rotating the media a bit...
  9. LXI slow - software or computer?

What do you mean by a "detailed EPS"? Does the file use a gradient fill. Sometimes a gradient fill will get broken into "stepped colors" to make up the gradient which will "bloat" the file. i.e. create too many shapes.

  11. Need Help Project board

We used to use a 4 x 8 dry erase board blocked out like a calendar with two weeks (5days). Everything was color coordinated for proofs, installs, finishing etc. A few months ago we started using trello and haven't looked back. So easy to track and move jobs along. However it does't handle...
  12. So.... What is everyone going to do for Thanksgiving?

No special precautions required here. I'll be up by 5am start the fire pit and enjoy the sunrise with a cup of joe. By afternoon we'll head up the road about 20 miles to have dinner with some local family members (maybe 10 of us). I'll make a green been casserole and the wife will bring her a...
  13. Rant I've frickin' had it.............................................

Not all that familiar with illy but is there a setting for backup i.e. how often to backup. In Corel I have opted to turn the feature off for this same reason. It seemed to close at exactly the same time frame each time which by default Corel is set at 20min. It will still create a backup but...
  14. Suggestions Need a new supplier

Why does 4Over's business card templates indicate a 1/16" bleed. Thought the standard was 1/8"? When I asked they even verbally said 1/8". So which is it? And why do the eps templates only have crop marks? Makes no sense to me.
  15. Recommendations

Depending on what software you want to run I'd stick to intel. AMD of any sort doesn't play well with others.
  16. STUPID F*&$@** CORPORATE BRANDING DESIGNERS

I'll take pdf over eps if gradients are present. And can't stress enough about how to properly create a pdf. In Corel you can put a check in the "Convert Fonts" tab. This is absolutely a must when creating pdf's. It's a little more tedious to do in illustrator but it can AND SHOULD be done...

  18. Rant And the fun continues.....

Whenever our sales team are asked to send over a companies logo they relay the message back to me. My first question is what is it for and I can tell immediately that the client is getting this weird face like what does that matter. So I explain to them the difference and usually end up creating...
