  1. My latest project.

I just finished up this project. It is a 2" routed sign made with Sign Foam 4, painted with One Shot. I also fabricated a 3/4" steel framework with studs to mount to the fence section. Here I am painting the letters... And a close up of me...can you see the determination? Here is the...
  2. John Don't Go!

    WTF :help
  3. John Don't Go!

I’m not taking sides, but coming from one of the most recognized graphic artists, I find this statement troubling. I am no way in the same league as a lot of the people on this forum, so I love going on and seeing the awesome work that some people post on here. I think, with your level of...
  4. Thickness of Sintra

Your not going to want to hear this, but I cringe when I use 12 mm outside. I prefer using at least 19 mm. But based on the fact that it's going flat on a brick wall, I would consider using 9 mm. 6 mm just seems a little thin... As far as cost, sale your customer on using a thicker...
  5. RIP Round Man

Rest in peace, Timmi. I never got to meet him, but what I do know is he was willing to help with any thing that someone needed. Just look back through his posts, and he would share his wisdom.
  6. Artwork Approval Contract

Yeah, stick to your guns. Of course, after the 3rd time of changing artwork, I would have started charging him shop rate of $75 per hour. Make sure you make sure that your customer knows this at the start of the project...
  7. Aluminum Faced Routed Letters

+1. I've done that on several projects, and it works well. When i bond them, I use a combination of clear silicone and vhb tape. The last project that I did I used 3/4" pvc backer, brushed aluminum face, and on top of that I put 1/4" pvc letters custom painted to match the customers logo...
  8. Sandblasting Mugs

Great, thanks for the info guys.
  9. Sandblasting Mugs

I have a customer that has asked if I can furnish a mask so that he can sandblast glass mugs. The size is only 3" x 2.5", and my concern is that the logo is too small to work. Is there a special type of mask to use? When I was asked about it, before thinking, I said not a problem...
  10. Corel x5 and windows 8 compatable?

I just got my new laptop in, and I am working on getting it set up. I am trying to install Corel X5, and it keeps giving me a compatibility errors. Anyone install X5 on win 8? Tips or tricks I need to know about? Thanks in advance, Mark
  11. The NBM Show...should I go?

I spent a lot of time there last year talking to Francis Lansetti ( so much that my photo was taken talking to him, and it's in the show ads)....
  12. The NBM Show...should I go?

The issue that I have with the schedule is the classes that I want to take are both on Thursday (both of the gold leaf classes). The major issue is the first class ends at 10:30, and the exhibit hall doesn't open until 3, whisk is when the second class starts. So what is there to do for 4 1/2...
  13. Issues centering text

I've noticed that Corel does that. It's a pain in the butt, but I always seem to have to make a second set of copy / numbers, convert to curves, and then recenter it. I keep the unconverted text off to the side so that if I ever have to go back, I know what font I used.
  14. need someone to quote some 48" cut translucent vinyl

I need some one to quote a 48" wide translucent cut vinyl in red. The finished length is 13'. I would do it in house, but my customer doesn't want a seam. I could weed and mask it here, I just need it cut. Pm me with any questions. Thanks in advance, Mark
  15. Sign World Convention, Atlantic City, in Oct. this year

I thought about going, but the only classes that i saw that i wanted to see are thursday. One early and one late. Since the show floor isnt open until later, i wouldn't be able to go to the bull pen. I wish that The gold leafin gclasses were on Friday instead.
  16. Teaser piece

What thickness are you starting with? Is it one piece, or layered? How are you dealing with the movement of the material? Or is the paint sealing it and helping to prevent any warping? sorry for so many questions, I'm just so inspired by your creativity. ... teach me, Master.
  17. Teaser piece

Wow...just, wow. I assume that it's HDU and gilded? I would love to see a step by step on this one... (ok, a step by step on anything you produce)...
  18. Whos paint mask are you guys using with Matthews Paints?

I've used 651 in a pinch, but paint mask tends to stick better, but it comes off without "stretching" as much when peeling it off...seems easier to remove, in my opinion. I've had more luck pulling it when it's tacky. There is one point when it cures just right...too wet and the paint bleeds...
  19. Dimensional sign advice

how thick is it? For an interior display sign, you would be fine. Exterior, PVC has a tendency of warping... unless it is really thick... something like 3/4" or so. As far as paint, I've been told that you can prime it with a special primer, and paint with whatever you like. I've never...
  20. My new site...

Several months ago, I got the opportunity to purchase a web site domain name, for what I thought was a great deal ($150). I secured hosting at ipage.com for $1.68 per month for the next 3 years. I used xara software to make the site (very powerful program, and as a beginner, a little...
