  1. older waterbased inkjet - Cleaning

pretty much. the msds sheets for water based cleaning solution only list water and surfactant. the bissell works well because it's a non-foaming soap. it's concentrated so you don't need much. it's been a while but i think it's around 20:1. just mix it right there on a counter top and use...
  2. Oce Arizona or Vutek QS ?

most of the km512s i've seen are 14, 35, and 42. does the 14 grayscale go below 14? if so that is something to consider. (i haven't seen any chinese models running the 1024) the passes are the same quality familiar to all epson base printers. i run most of my prints at 720x720 four pass...
  3. Oce Arizona or Vutek QS ?

stock build is hiwin rails. a THK upgrade is available but i don't remember how much. i think i read that you could pick which rails. of course the gantry would be the main place to upgrade. THK on the x rails wouldn't seem to improve performance. the rigidity is one thing i want to look...
  4. older waterbased inkjet - Cleaning

distilled water (warm if possible) and bissell hard floor cleaning solution. http://www.bissell.com/2x-hard-floor-solutions-formula-16-oz/
  5. Oce Arizona or Vutek QS ?

attached are two photos of the 4x8. there are four different sizes. i asked the company to print on some sintra and film it for me. of course in china, i'll be bringing my own sintra, coro, gatorfoam, petg, polycarb, pmma, glass, dibond, aluminum, canvas, styrene..... the works. i'm not...
  6. Oce Arizona or Vutek QS ?

i'll be in china in three weeks at the china sign expo looking at the new dual dx5 LED flatbeds. of all the chinese flatbeds, the winwin/ntek looks the best. over the next five years the overhead metric will be greatly altered by shops running these printers. from a...
  7. jv3 160sp oddly stuck in "local mode"

without media in the printer it boots to: (LOCAL) !HEATER REPLACE WIPER should it say "no media"? like i mentioned, i'm not familiar with a regular boot without all the sensors altered.
  8. jv3 160sp oddly stuck in "local mode"

the printer stops at the point in the boot that measures. so it doesn't have a "valid width". all is fine up until that point. i am going to carefully hotwire my lever IR sensor in a bit. because i've taped off the rear media sensor, put white tape in area that the media width sensor uses...
  9. What type of carbon is used in activated charcoal filters?

exactly. if i ever find mine (which i do every month or so) i swear i will tape it to a wall.
  10. What type of carbon is used in activated charcoal filters?

i've got a delta air filter that hangs between the legs of one of my work tables. i get the activated charcoal filters for your home from lowe's and just fold and lay them in there. the vacuum hold them in place. that thing can move a lot of air.
  11. jv3 160sp oddly stuck in "local mode"

update: _______________________ media sensor is fine. usually it has a piece of tape over it. i pulled off the tape put a piece of paper over and away from it. while doing that the vacuum fan comes on and off accordingly. _________________________ it will boot into maintenance mode...
  12. jv3 160sp oddly stuck in "local mode"

i only have more experience breaking printers. i bet if i never routed the sensor out of the hull, i might not be having this issue.
  13. jv3 160sp oddly stuck in "local mode"

one thing to the signs101ers.... i'm out of town for the day then heading back to try to fix this issue. so if it seems i'm not responding to the suggestions.... it's because i'm unavailable for the next 10 hours. i will check on the firmware possibility. also, i was thinking that maybe...
  14. jv3 160sp oddly stuck in "local mode"

i haven't booted my jv3 160sp for a few weeks. i had cleaning solution in it and left it on doing its cleaning sessions. then got tired of hearing it so i turned it off. (the heads would have been completely clean so no harm there). now i turn it on and it boots then does not measure. just...
  15. MDO vs. Flatbed

i have one suggestion. it would require some welding (maybe). say the MDO is 3/4. get some heavy 8' x 3/4" O.D. square aluminum extrusion or steel bar. you might want to weld another supporting u channel that is really heavy to it. you'd want it to be very rigid. now drill/countersink some...
  16. Encoder strip Issue

keep in mind that stepping to the left can not be your encoder strip. usually means the encoder sensor might be bad. print this file set it in your rip so that it prints as long as your platen. first start by printing the first two or three inches then increasingly make it wider. at the...
  17. Encoder strip Issue

yep. they'll both be 180 lpi. the only issue might be the width or some holes that each model requires for installing them across the gantry.
  18. DX5 head source fo JV33 etc

it's odd that the manifold is the weakest part, solvent resistance wise, of the entire printer (solvent manifolds). mimakis and possibly other printers could handle much harsher inks if it weren't for this weakest link. as for the martinis oddly enough our household for the last two months has...
  19. DX5 head source fo JV33 etc

Ha! no... i make my own varnishes/inks. so, i have this zip lock bag of chopped up printer parts (dampers, pump tubes, etc). i soak the parts in the different recipes to test for any solvent resistance issues.
  20. DX5 head source fo JV33 etc

xylene/xylol will melt a print head manifold into chewing gum in 30 seconds. this is a set of photos of a piece of a dx4 head manifold dissolving in xylol. all these chemicals are unfriendly to short chain plastics toluene xylene/xylol benzene paint thinner
