  1. Suggestions canvas

If you can print a banner you can print canvas. Been doing it for years. I use LexJet Sunset. Load it and print it. Never a problem.
  2. RIP Aretha Franklin

I never said anyone knew what it might mean, I said they knew how to spell it.
  3. RIP Aretha Franklin

Because of her everyone on the planet knows how to spell 'respect'.
  4. Scratched Acrylic

Torch. Very small and very cool. Back in the day that's the way airplane canopies were polished. The technique is still widely used to polish cut edges of this sort of material.
  5. Survey about charging for design time on projects

I'm in the sign business, not the design business. In order to make a sign first I have to lay it out. Not 'design' it, just lay it out. It's all part of the job. And yes Jean Shimp, I'm perfectly capable of 'whipping out a sketch' that will pretty much be of some merit. If a patron wants me to...
  6. FONT ID HELP" OLD PAVING"

The red on yellow "Old English Paving" is uncial. The rest is is just stuff and easy to fake.
  7. Need Help BUBBLES! Need clear answers on vinyl application

Bubbles, as well as their vicious cousins, wrinkles, are almost always squeegee technique. When you squeegee ALWAYS overlap your strokes. Start the stoke with the squeegee completely on the last stroke and then some. Let the squeegee put the vinyl on the substrate, having the vinyl in contact...
  8. Anyone stop accepting credit cards?

Never started. To quote the late Wolfman Jack: "Cash, check, or money order."
  9. Post/panel Installing 4x8 3mm ACM sign

All overkill. Drop a couple of 4x4's into the ground and attach a couple of horizontal stringers. I'd use 2x4's but 2x6's probably would make you feel better. It's only a 4x8, it's not going anywhere and it's not going to sag.
  10. FONT ID HELP.... INDIAN

This was done at a time when these sorts of things were not type set, rather they were uniquely designed. You might find something sorta-kinda or perhaps some enterprising being created an actual typeface from the logo. It happens a lot.
  11. Font Help Help with Font

Hand painted. Excellent work but there are a couple of tells.
  12. What' going on? Avery MPI 1105 Supercast EZRS/ DOL 1060Z

I've used Oracal, 3M, Avery, and a host of others. Right now I'm using Avery 1105ABC-WTF-BFD-WHATEVER. I've been using liquid laminate on 1105 since it first came out. The thickness of the vinyl should make no difference. You're adding a coating, be it more vinyl or liquid, the thickness of...
  13. What' going on? Avery MPI 1105 Supercast EZRS/ DOL 1060Z

It's not the vinyl, it's the laminate. The pictures show typical laminate burning. If you could remove the laminate, hypothetically, most likely you'd find the vinyl to be just fine. I've experienced this very same phenomenon in recent years. I stopped using vinyl laminates except in those rare...
  14. pdf export

Often when you import a pdf, or an eps file for that matter, into Flexi the entire image comes in being masked into a black rectangle. There can then be subsets of the image also masked into black objects. Perhaps there's some sort of unmasking going on here. Your description of the issue is...
  15. Crack and Peel pre-slit liner rolls

There's a lot of little gadgets for slitting the liner but they all depend on precision depth setting, constant pressure, and keeping the tool perfectly parallel to the backing. In other words, sometimes the magic works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it cuts into the vinyl, sometimes it...
  16. How Concerned should I be about Gassing Out a print?

Are you being deliberately obtuse? The alchemist was an example if the fallacy 'Appeal to Authority', albeit not the best example. More generally stated "If all these people are pursuing X then this is somehow evidence of the existence of X." The fact the people are chasing after something says...
  17. How Concerned should I be about Gassing Out a print?

Right, and if there's no such thing as magic then what were all those alchemists doing? Your argument for the existence of the phenomenon is beyond lame.
  18. How Concerned should I be about Gassing Out a print?

Thank you Dr. Science... As far as recommendations for the mysterious outgassing, likewise does each media manufacturer have some sort of specifications. Whatever time is specified by whomever to allow the various outgassing dwarves to toil at their labors is merely a ploy to limit culpability...
  19. How Concerned should I be about Gassing Out a print?

The most of you folk are conflating two entirely different phenomena. Actually you're conflating a myth and a real phenomena. What is referred to as out gassing, off gassing, gassing out, sucking the pipe, or whatever term is in vogue in your village is the myth. Solvent dries via evaporation...
  20. Discussion Thought I knew this answer......................

First, it's no concern of yours what name anyone wants to hang on their business. You are in no way responsible for the choices of your client. Secondly and apropos of nothing, way back Chevrolet came out with a model called the 'Beretta'. This prompted a lawsuit from Beretta Arms claiming...
