  1. Font I'D???

    Which one?
  2. How to Print true CMYK ???

I'd like to hear one of you colour "wizards" explain why anyone would design in RGB when the application is a CMYK printer output. If your system is fully colour-managed to deliver the maximum CMYK gamut your printer can output, that means you have custom ICC profiles that are in CMYK space...
  3. Artwork Proofing

We throw the designs on a letter-sized proof template, mark them up with any relevant information, and then email the client a PDF of that. Never had someone "steal" our designs, but that's probably because they've usually paid us at least half by that point.
  4. Are there "best practices" for contour cut lines?

Minimum 1/2" cap height for most plain fonts. Minimum 1/16" for thin lines. Intricate designs like a vector grunge texture or ink splatter are either a no-go, or we charge a TON of weeding time with the caveat that the final result might be missing a few bits and pieces (but no one will notice)...
  5. Need Help Adobe and Flexi

Importing AI files into your RIP is generally a bad practice. Export to PDF and then import that to your RIP. If you still have issues with effects like outer glow, export as PDF/X and flatten your transparencies. Worst case scenario, import the AI or PDF file into Photoshop and flatten it to a...
  6. FlexiSign Pro 8 importing AI file

If Flexi won't import a large AI file, I would try exporting to PDF for better compatibility. If the large size still seems to cause an issue, try downsizing the images when you export the PDF, then export/import the original high-res images to Flexi separately and combine it all together...
  7. How stressed are you?

The water is saturated with 900lbs of epsom salts, which is a hostile environment for bacteria. They also make you sign a waiver that they'll charge you $1,000 to clean and refill the tank if you leave any "bodily fluids" in it. You shower immediately before and after using the tank. The tank...
  8. How stressed are you?

I spent 45min in a sensory deprivation float tank a few weeks ago. Super weird at first, but then soooo relaxing. Sunday night was actually the perfect time for it.
  9. Font help please

Exo is the original. Mina is a fork of Exo that adds support for the Bengali alphabet. The Latin alphabet has been changed a little in Mina – OP's sample is Mina, not Exo.
  10. Flatbed conversion: Has it ever been attempted?

Not my area of expertise, but wouldn't it make more sense for the bed to be stationary and the printer to move along it? It would require 1/2 the floor space that way. Also, I don't think the eco-sol ink in your Roland is going to stick to most rigid substrates like acrylic, coro, sintra, etc.
  11. At a loss, Need font help

"Weird Bill is Squid's tribute to his most prominent influence, Bill Campbell, model kit box illustrator extraordinaire and creator of the Weird-Ohs!. Bill's series of goofy monster model kits in the early 1960s was such a hit that it has been reissued twice!"...
  12. Rant Win 10 May update beware ! From verge news

Thanks, I didn't know about this. However, it looks like the default setting on my Windows 10 machine is sharing updates with the LAN only, not WAN, which is contrary to reports online that say WAN is the default.
  13. Font Help Needed

Century Expanded, or something else in the Century/Clarendon category.
  14. Critique Requested

Sorry, but this is by far the nicest design I've seen in the thread. Perhaps you should subcontract the design work?
  15. Can a cut file change over the years?

This sort of thing can happen if you've resized it numerous times, particularly if it was reduced to a small size and then back up to full size. It depends what software you're using, but some seem to have limitations built into the vector coordinates, so each time you resize an object, the...
  16. Different Color Stroke

Yes, I'd be interested to see this file as well. I can't imagine why any RIP would treat strokes and fills differently, so it's more than likely an issue with your artwork.
  17. Critique Requested

Too many underlined letters. Just do one, if any. A quirky feature like that should be used sparingly if you want it to be effective. The background doesn't work with the text at all. It looks like they were designed separately. Design them so they fit together better. What were you thinking...
  18. How anal are you.......... ??

Your software probably does it differently because you're in Canada. In Canada, like most of the world, numerical dates are day/month/year.
  19. File Sharing and Data Transfer Methods. Which is best?

You probably don't want to be using a cloud setup like Wetransfer or Dropbox to send files from your design computer to your production computer, even with today's internet speeds. If your two computers are in the same building, just wire them to the same LAN and share a folder. Even better...
  20. How anal are you.......... ??

I have no issue abbreviating dates if necessary to conserve space, but otherwise I'd prefer to spell it out in full. mm/dd/yyyy is a terrible idea for a sign, though, whoever mentioned that. It takes most people a few seconds to decode numerical months. Not to mention that every person who's...
