  1. Cutting lines on a traction fed plotter

The only other thing I can think of is cleaning the roller wheel under the pinch roller, which you said has been cleaned... The next step sounds like calling Summa and sending it back to get checked out. The only other thing that I can think is something is bent somewhere.
  2. Cutting lines on a traction fed plotter

So, the pieces your cutting are only 12" x 1/4" and 3/8"? How wide is the material that your attempting to cut it from? I have run vinyl up to 20' and paper (known to be really bad about not tracking straight) for 20-30' through my D-60 (which is only a 24" plotter"). I could see a problem...
  3. Gilded Letter Protection

To be honest, if it is a flat sign, I would just use SignGold. Just clear around the letters with a seal it pen. I am a newby at gilding, but from what I am seeing, gilded gold looks better if it has some dimension to it. Plus it would be so much faster than gilding the letters that will end...
  4. Feels like I'm falling into it.

:omg:... What are your computer specs? I want to build a new computer this upcoming year, and I'm lost as far as where to start.
  5. Gilding: NEWBIE

    +1
  6. Gilding: NEWBIE

No, no, no, no... If you add paint to the size, you are changing the chemistry of it, thus changing how it reacts. The ideal thing to use is Kaolin USP. Just dust it on, and vacuum the excess off. (This prevents the gold from sticking to what you don't want it to.) Then you apply the size...
  7. Another hand carved HDU sign. (with gilding)

    I resemble that remark....:toasting:
  8. Another hand carved HDU sign. (with gilding)

Beautiful work... :notworthy: What paint did you use on it?
  9. The USSC show, the day after.

Well, I made it the USSC show on Friday. This is all my opinion, and if you went, lets hear what you thought. I made it to both of Joe Diaz's classes, Custom lettering effects and create and sell logos. The classes were well thought out, and I liked the open forum environment (if you had a...
  10. What type of vinyl for wall quotes

Most of the wall quotes that I've done are for the local YMCA (inspirational quotes), so they requested that they stay indefinitely, so I've used 651 with great success. The only other wall letters that I've been asked to do is for a local museum, and they requested that I use Avery, so I did...
  11. New to signs 101. But mature in the sign business

Welcome from just down the road in Ridgely Md...
  12. Title Block Template for Corel

80% of the drawings I do I don't scale, because most customers are not going to break out the scale rule. I just scale the art down to fit to the sheet...As far as outlines going wonky, that's because instead of outlines, you are making pen weight bolder. There are two ways around that...
  13. Everyone should open a business they know nothing about:)

Yup...too many times people come in thinking that their sign company is charging too much... and I'm a little confused. .. 2 statements in the same same thread. ..:snarky
  14. Everyone should open a business they know nothing about:)

Welcome from Maryland. .. My one question is if you don't know anything about signs, why open a sign shop?
  15. System for naming/archiving files

This is pretty much how I do it. Except I don't break my customers down alphabetically. F:>Artwork>*Customer Name*>*project identifier*>... For instance, say I have a customer that has several projects (I do sub contract work for a couple of companies), it would look like this: F:>Joe's...
  16. Restaurant Logo

    Top notch, as usual...:thumb:
  17. Butch Anton's Frogjuice Supplier

letterheadsignsupply.com And frog juice turned yellow? The information that I read on it says that it is non yellowing...
  18. Butch Anton's Frogjuice Supplier

I was advised by a vendor that any gold less than 8' should be cleared to prevent the oils from fingers tarnishing it. The sign is on a podium as you enter a restaurant. Have I been told wrong info (to possibly sell me something I don't need)?
  19. Is it too early to talk about the USSC show yet?

I'm taking both of the Friday classes. .. front row with pad and pen... and a bunch of questions.
  20. Is it too early to talk about the USSC show yet?

Just wondering. It's a month away, and I am already planning on heading down that Friday. I got an offer from a supplier for free passes into the show (heck yeah, I'll go in on their dime)... So since I'm getting the passes to the show, I'm going to register for the (2) classes that morning...
