  1. Problems with my Encad Novajet Pro 600e

well, you can use the go+ inks (pigmented) which will out last the solvent ink in the sun by ten fold. but to compete against guys with slovent printers and a nice laminator, that's a different category of "outdoor". you should be good to go on the rip. i say, pick up some ink on ebay...
  2. strange banding JV3160sp

do a damper swap. pull some ink, or two normal cleans and see if cyan acts the same way at the magenta or yellow position. also, pull some ink at the cyan damper. how much resistance is there and does the damper stay caved in or relax after a moment?
  3. Problems with my Encad Novajet Pro 600e

a 600e? that is going back a ways. if you just want a poster here and there, any printer will make you money. but encads are odd machines. they are prone to throwing belts, and carriage axis issues (it's a whole carriage precariously balanced on a linear rail). the good news is china is...
  4. jv3 160sp heads not firing

don't buy pumps! all you need is to replace the little tube inside the pump. (really if you flush the snot out of the pump you rarely need to take it apart ever). but the inner tube can get a flat spot in it after a few years. it's not the pumps. if it's clogged you feel resistance when...
  5. jv3 160sp heads not firing

it was hard to tell with the photo what channel was what. just a cap top change out is fine enough to diagnose whether things are working or not. did you do the quiet room listen for hissing air noise? the ink supply will make noise when it is leaking. also, as far as seal, you can have a...
  6. jv3 160sp heads not firing

instead of replying in the box at the bottom of the thread, click the "go advanced" button. there will be an attachment "paper clip" button. keep them small though. there is an 800 pixel limit.
  7. jv3 160sp heads not firing

yeah. the one in the manual makes very little sense. here's a rendering of how it goes. top to top, bottom to bottom in pairs. just like crossing your legs. there's no bottom to top, or splitting the heads cables across channels.
  8. jv3 160sp heads not firing

@humpsigns, please upload some pics so we can visualize the test pattern. like sightline mentioned. you may just have an ink issue. if the pattern is spotty to nearly blank on one side of the channel....or zero ink, that is the question. a pic would be telling. get some cleaning solution...
  9. what would you do serious question

keep in mind that the general public has their own definition of "deposit". if they put down a pet deposit. that doesn't mean they lose the deposit just because the pet lives there. the deposit is to protect the business from "costs incurred". some of my deposits are over $10,000. there are...
  10. jv3 160sp heads not firing

i had a real hard time following the isolation sequence. i've had a bit of a rough day in jv3-land too today. so maybe it's just the hours. the heads that were replaced... i'm assuming they never gave you any half on half off issue? might you pop in an old one an see what it does (i know you...
  11. jv3 160sp heads not firing

you might be able to raise the encoder to read a different/higher portion of the strip. with the data swap, does the issue stay at the head?
  12. what would you do serious question

personally, i only keep the deposit if actual work as been done. even if i go out and buy a huge piece of thick acrylic. it's just the "right thing to do". if i've been proposing and revising and holding up my studio's other projects while wasting time with a project that dead ends, then that...
  13. Well OK...here's a stupid question...

you don't use a magnifier to see it's in bi. hell, you can hear the difference. do a test file in one pass or two pass, it will be very obvious if you are laying down ink going right vs/ just left.
  14. jv3 160sp heads not firing

i assume you are printing CMYKx2. do a data swap between magenta and cyan. you are looking to see if the issue jumps between them. it's starting to sound like you have an exotic issue. a bad encoder sensor can cause the printer to allow the carriage to go in to motion but without the heads...
  15. jv3 160sp heads not firing

well vapor lock usually require pulling a vacuum with a syringe from the waste line. the pumps just don't seem to pull the right way. the pull in short bursts. a syringe continuous. pull about 10ccs or so from the waste line and see if there's a difference. also with your test print. are...
  16. jv3 160sp heads not firing

it would seem that if any color is firing properly, then the encoder strip can't be to blame. it's a universal part and can't cause a problem on a particular channel. it's just reporting to the firmware the carriage position. thus, the only issue you could have is dots or printing out of...
  17. DX5 head source fo JV33 etc

well, i've come to need a new dx 4 for the jv3 (black channel the one that does all the work for me). so i get to taking the the epson 10,000 head apart and guess what i see? epson puts a nice little fluid gasket like shield (about .5" x 1") between the manifold and the pcb. this is a great...
  18. Vinyl Express III 72" eco solvent

just realized that i posted the same link twice. this is a much better link (part 2). part 1 and maybe 4 are no where to be found. sorry. http://youtu.be/dvVxa-tWyvk also here's an install video of a wit-color ultra 1000 http://youtu.be/DCemv6VInbY
  19. Vinyl Express III 72" eco solvent

i did the LEDs before i ever even booted my printer. i think it was about a $45 upgrade from lowes (under the counter lighting). there is no way i can use the printer with the lights off. it's an essential thing, not an upgrade. plus i have a par 50 hallogen in the ceiling right above the...
  20. Purchasing a Mimaki JV3

you can listen. an aged jv3 can whir loudly with all the motors and bearings and such. or it can sound very clean and slick. you can do a y-motor test and the head carriage will aggressively zing back and forth like it's going for a world record. any drag or resistance would show up there...
