Has the installer done the M-Gap and horizontal adjustments in service mode? If you fail to do so, user mode m-gap doesn't work.

Look at the knife holder. Most of the time, they are the problem. You can try to lubricate, or replace it.

This manifold doesn't look like the one on Roland VS heads...

Have you adjusted the (feed)calibration? We had to replace heads on these machines because of so called microbanding. It could be media dependent.

What you describe, was a update, that is required for the old machines to recognise the cartridges with new chips. This update was looong ago... It doesn't give the now processing message, it just behaves, like there is no cartridge chip present.

Every other day is for white ink only. The other inks about once a week. I only saw problems with orange ink, when it sat in the printer for over three months without replacement or shaking. But I always set shake alert to on, to keep the colors consistent at all times.

While the VG had some quirks, these have been solved in the VG2 and VG3. The TR2 ink is very stable and you can laminate 6 hours after printing.

Set the media type from clear to opaque.

Up down is not a motor, it's a solenoid. If you move the knife up and down by hand in service mode, you should see the encoder value change. You could test the resistance of the coil.

I would check, if the sleeves over the manifolds are already mounted... otherwise the manifolds on the heads tend to break very, very easily.

All the printers that ran on VW Dual, will run on VW6.

I'd replace the head to test. (From the first aid kit, that every reseller should have...) If it's not the head, it could be the flat cable or the main board. Since the board is easier to replace, I'd replace the board first.(you guessed right, it's in the first aid kit as well's) Without parts...

The ink supplier should have a desinfectant...

Could be a fungal infection. If your ink is prone to that, the can give you a desinfectant to clean the system.

I'd remove it and install VW 6.16.1.

Well, you answer it yourself. Hundred mainboards... the mainboard failure rate of the VP and VPi is by far the highest. (Mostly the network circuit fails)

VP is end of life, don't touch it. (No more mainboards available and they die quite often)

The heads, that print over the whole width have highly likely gone south... That is at least my experience with DX4 heads. (I replaced hundreds of them, on Rolands, Epsons and Mimakis) I'd check/replace the flat cables from the carriage board to the heads. Test the heads with the magenta...
