How long was it left unplugged? How long since you've replaced the cap top? Dampers? OEM ink? Did you check the cables?

Nutec is made right in your neighborhood. I don't have any experience with their Mimaki line, but I'm sure it's as good as the others that I've tried. They have a long history in making inks and are actually OEM ink suppliers for some big name printers. I don't think you can go wrong with Nutec

What option are you loading it with? Roll 1, Roll 2 or sheet? How far from the pinch wheels are the reg marks? How far from the back edge of the vinyl?

My best guess would be that ink got somewhere that it shouldn't have and at the very least, you blew a fuse on the main board. At the worst, you could have fried the print head itself, which then blew the fuse on the main board.
