  1. Looking for a "good" X-Acto knife?

Nope. That's the one I can't get the blade to tighten. Doesn't fall completely out but slips back and forth or in/out about an 1/8" or so. The blade is meant to only go one way even though it appears it could go the either way. Does have an anti roll "knub" on it though. The quest continues...
  2. Looking for a "good" X-Acto knife?

Hmm...don't know how accurate of a cut one can make but I'm willing to give it a shot. For example, cutting a circle out of magnetic material would be tough. As would intricate shapes from coroplast.
  3. Looking for a "good" X-Acto knife?

I've used many different brands of X-Acto knives over these 18+ years. Never liked any of 'em. Blade slips out no matter how tight you turn it, rubber grip fails, barrel cracks etc. What is the little slot for in these blades? Why can't they make a knife that utilizes that feature to lock it...
  4. Help me get organized!

In addition to the in-house designed workorder with "job jacket" (zip lock) We use a large 4ft x 8ft dry erase board to track production and due dates and such. It's set up like a calendar with a 2 week block. Write in the date, customer name and a brief description. Add whether promised or...

  6. Forget this place

I wouldn't be caught dead in that part of the world. Then again, maybe I would be.
  7. Stencil

We use paintmask vinyl. Since we don't have that size we'd cut it into two pieces with an overlap.
  8. Question Need to pick the brain of an illustrator guru.

All done with macros banner grommets and cut line, registration marks for plotting, find hidden shapes, create "my" crop marks, find all shapes that touch the currently selected shape, replace shapes with clones, detect intersects, quick scaling of vehicle photos, flatten empty layers, flatten...

  11. How do you dress at work? Uniforms?

It's ok. This is actually the job I did in the military. Visual Information Craftsman aka graphic design. We had a large format printer, laminator, lot's of xacto's... Oh and occasionally used an M16. lol
  12. How to Find Car Dimensions

Not a big fan the "vehicle templates" but probably would get you just as close as the wheelbase measurement. I would still insist on photos of the actual vehicle. The templates don't take into account the different body moldings available throughout the vehicle models. i.e. the templates tend to...
  13. How do you dress at work? Uniforms?

Only Chuck Norris can wear flip flops and run with scissors
  14. How to Find Car Dimensions

google is your friend. Maybe this is enough to get in the ballpark. Just scale the wheelbase and trust the rest to be close.
  15. How do you dress at work? Uniforms?

Varies. I'm primarily the designer so not much outside work. Clean various color polos (different color for each day) w/co logo on left breast area, jeans w/shirt tucked and a wide leather belt for holding tools if need be. All production employees must wear closed toe shoes! I wear an all...
  16. Question Need to pick the brain of an illustrator guru.

I can see why that would "bother" some. It comes with the occupation. On occasion I have to use illy so I'm trying to familiar myself with it as to not get so frustrated.
  17. Question Need to pick the brain of an illustrator guru.

Thanks all. I have no intention of ever being an illy user for the simple fact that some of the most basic tasks/info you need you really have to dig for. Coreldraw's workspace is fully customizable to one's liking. If I wish to only see the selected shapes h/w I simply hold the alt key then...
  18. Question Need to pick the brain of an illustrator guru.

Every time I try using illy I get frustrated. I thought maybe if I just ask questions as I need them. 1. how can I turn off the x and y info whereby just leaving the h/w? Or any other stuff I don't care to see on the workspace. 2. the eyedropper doesn't show the values of colors as you hover...
