  1. 3D Raised Decals

So glad to see that it didn't end up being doming. Doming is . . . the . . . worst.
  2. They just dont make good stuff anymore....

Just imagine walking through Lowe's or Home Depot and what the cost of every item on those shelves would be if they were made by people paid 15x more just for the satisfaction of a little American flag on the item.
  3. Need Help graphtec FC8600 and avery vinyl

I've been using Avery cast high performance stuff on different machines for about 15 years. It definitely doesn't weed right anymore. We used to think it was the vinyl, but I'm increasingly convinced it's the liner. The vinyl still cuts the same, but it doesn't release like it used to...
  4. Question Graphtec FC 8600 what is the maximum length I can cut? Can I run a job at 123"?

Cutting a giant rectangle is usually easy peezy on our FC8600. But if I was going to cut 50 1'' x 250'' stripes? By the time it cut the time it cut the final stripe, they'd probably look like pipe cleaners.
  5. Need Advice On Flatbed Table Applicator

We got a Roll-X application table here last summer. We were all resistant to the idea, but came around when we realized that you could do a 4x8 full cover job in 10 minutes dry instead making a mess everywhere wet. But be warned - it has a margin of error. You can't put a 4x8 print...
  6. Cutting & Weeding Controltac 180

In this case, not printing it at all. Just out of the box IJ180 and IJ180mc. It cuts perfectly. It just doesn't weed very well. I mean, nothing weeds well since the late 2000s when they got stingy on oil, but this is just the pits.
  7. Cutting & Weeding Controltac 180

Our shop cuts a ton of Controltac 180. Usually just stripes and letters. Occasionally, we'll have to cut hundreds of 2'' and 3'' numbers. The guys weeding constantly complain that my plotter settings have to be bad because it's such a chore to weed. I argue that the liner on...
  8. Need Help Graphtec Plotter Not Cutting Correctly?!?

I complained for two years about crappy print-to-cut on our 8600. Then the mainboard got static fried and I had to set it up from scratch. I highly recommend running the calibration print where you adjust the ARMS using a simple crosshair printed on a printer. Once I had it setup, it...
  9. Tired of HarborSales pushing things out.

We're also in PA and I prefer Grimco (Vinyl Sign Supply to Proveer to Grimco) for pretty much everything, but I don't do the ordering. The business manager likes to throw random items into our Harbor orders and boxes of vinyl do not fare very well in a truck full of sheet material and scroll...
  10. Graphtec FC8600-160 Hangnails Driving Me Nuts!!!

I think it was a combination of things. #1 culprit appears to have been that the knife holder hadn't EVER been blown out or lubed. Then I tightened everything, flipped the cut strip, dialed back all my settings, confirmed the offset, and changed the blade.
  11. Graphtec FC8600-160 Hangnails Driving Me Nuts!!!

OMG, yeah . . . I'm the only one running this machine, so I don't have any minions to blame it on. Goes to show that those conditions and tools actually do something afterall.
  12. Graphtec FC8600-160 Hangnails Driving Me Nuts!!!

I'd agree, but I only ever use 3 conditions including the pen. And this whole mess has had me even mixing and matching seeing if I can eliminate it. I was wondering if GSPPlot just doesn't like to talk to Graphtec and all the firmware and driver updates when it got tuned threw something...
  13. Graphtec FC8600-160 Hangnails Driving Me Nuts!!!

That was a wicked good idea. There was no debris in the holder or damage to the blade, but it was a worthwhile exercise that I'd never tried before.
  14. Graphtec FC8600-160 Hangnails Driving Me Nuts!!!

I just removed it and rotated it, just in case and it had no impact on cut quality.
  15. Graphtec FC8600-160 Hangnails Driving Me Nuts!!!

It was completely replaced by Graphtec service about 2 months ago (Previous strip had about 5 years of abuse on it).
  16. Graphtec FC8600-160 Hangnails Driving Me Nuts!!!

I'm using all factory blades and holders. Offset was usually -1, but 0 and +1 have had little effect. Blade is barely protruding - I've got it dialed up farther than I ever have before, actually.
  17. Graphtec FC8600-160 Hangnails Driving Me Nuts!!!

Our Graphtec FC8600-160 is giving me fits of rage trying to cut Bright Green Controltac 180. I know these letters are on the small side for that material (around 1'') but I can't dial this out no matter what setting I try. I get hangnails on the inside and outside of every perfectly round...
  18. What on earth vinyl does this? holy %$%$

Some Avery 2 mil vinyls randomly have a grey adehesive. Spectra Red looks like the culprit. How old was that install? Maybe from the aborted Avery 800 Series days when literally everything they made was a disaster?
  19. Need Help static shock made my Graphtec buttons not work

I static shocked our FC8600 a week ago (don't weed massive amounts of vinyl ON the machine, btw). At first it seemed like the shock had only disabled a few buttons, but then it started only reading between the first few grit rollers. It turned out that the control panel was fine, the...
  20. Graphtec Only Reading Between 1st & 2nd Pinch Rollers

When the main board in our 8600 went last month, this was one of the symptoms. It ceased recognizing anything outside the first two rollers and only if they were inside that same approximate distance.
