    Encad Vinyljet was a waterbased ink, but not latex ink...whole other make-up.

    I too would recommend a 3mil aluminum composite substrate. If a frame is required then I would use ex7 or ex12 aluminum extrusion and fit the substrate into the extrusion's channel.

    A little off topic, but you mentioned using dye ink. How long does the prints last until you notice fading? You should consider switching to pigment inks and the prints will last much longer.

    High build primer and sanding and repeat until smooth. I use a latex acrylic primer such as Zinnser.
