  4. Question How do you prepare your print files

-if the design is all vector, eps as rgb or cmyk depending on colors used or pdf (especially if pantone colors are used). One of our printers won't do pdf's hence the use of tif's. NEVER jpg's -if both raster and vector, tif or pdf -if gradient/fountain fills are used NEVER eps. Tiff -raster...

  7. Calculating Rolled Media Length

I was working on this same thing way back when we would count vinyl inventory at the end of the year. can't remember the formula I came up with. Out of the bx 150' roll, Pi, radius, circumference, core size, media thickness etc. all had a play in the formula. Now our print tracks the media used...
  8. using a separate computer and RIP computer

The idea of having hot folders is that the jobs dropped in are not actually stored after printing, they are dumped. You can set it to do so but we've found no need for it cluttering up the HD. You can also save more commonly reprinted items. You already have a copy in the the "design pc" if you...
  9. Contour cut and photoshop

Drives me nuts when someone uses photoshop to design knowing it will have to be "shape-cut" at some point. Why on earth would you do such a thing! Design all elements in your favorite VECTOR program. If you want to incorporate any photoshop effects/trickery that's fine. Once your shape/text is...
  10. using a separate computer and RIP computer

We have two stand alone computers for two separate RIP programs (Colorspan for our dinosaur Colorspan & Flexi Production Manager for our HP360) - Flexi is set up with a "hot folder" shared on our network. Our designers export their files to the hot folder and our print guy can manage them all...

  12. Does illy have an artboard limitation?

Wow!All the more reason not to use it.
  13. Does illy have an artboard limitation?

It's not a Corel limitation. It imports back into Corel with no problems. Scaling 50% smaller solved part of my issues. I had to use a combination of Acrobat Pro and illy to get it straightened out!
  14. Does illy have an artboard limitation?

I'm designing a tradeshow display at full scale in Corel X7. Size with crop marks is 221"w x 108"h. When I make a pdf for the third party they inform me that the file comes in at 200"w x .... I figured they're probably using adobe. Sure enough when I open the pdf in illy it's cutting it off. I...
  15. Gerber Edge 2 - white line i colorprints

We've had this same issue for years except the line only runs parallel with the hole punch. And always in the same area with all foils. Like a dead spot in the heating element or something. Ruins the whole row of decals in that region.

  17. I'm looking for good vehicle decal software.

No, sounds like you mean clipart discs. You already have software to cut with. Tons of em out there. Just need to make sure the file types are editable i.e. eps, cgm, ai, cdr, wmf. Most of Aurora graphics are designed in photoshop and not editable. only some have separate vector cut lines.
  18. Corel X8s AI and EPS wont work!!

Let me get this straight. You export or save as AI or Eps it won't open in illy? What version of illy?
  19. 360 Red Printing Question

We've found it very difficult to get a good red with the 360. We're using CMYK and light magenta/light cyan. Someone suggested to create a profile that only uses CMYK and we should get better reds but I can't convince my print guy to try anything. Another suggestion was to decrease the amount of...
