  1. Looking to purchase new setup

I would stay far away from latex machines. As a wrap installer, I have been given prints form latex many times and almost every time there is some sort of issue. Color changes from beginning of the roll to the end, registration being off over a 15' span by over an inch or two, etc. From what...
  2. Lamination Issues

I don't think I've ever had this issue so I'll put in my 2 cents. I have printers, laminator and work table all in one room. We have 2 ways doors that automatically close after you walk through. I also had my floor done with epoxy to make cleaning easier. Previously, I just had that grey...
  3. Trade only distributor selling to retail.

Fellers is supposedly trade only but I get people coming in asking for install on rolls of material they brought straight from Fellers. When I ask them how they got it, they say they just signed up for an account. It's extremely disappointing to see this. For this reason, I buy from fellers...
  4. Shop Storage

For the left over laminate rolls, I recently got a Roll-X table. I knew I was getting it so I saved all my roll ends. I've been using them as needed on the table. Since there is no set up or waste, I bet I saved about $500 in lamination that would have gone in the garbage and I've only had it...
  5. installing over big plastic rivets!!!

Wrap is not meant to adhere to those plastic rivets so make sure you are upfront with your client about expectations. We always warn that they may not stay long term and do not warrantee them. Anyway, we primer them around the edge. We wrap it and heat it in. After it's in, we cut around it...
  6. Need Help Recommended premask for wet installaions

I just recently switched over to General Formulation 791AE, it's an air egress and works great. Also, it has a think backing paper which never rips when removing for installation. I've been very happy with it. Previously with Avery Etchmark, I would have to recut a piece every so often which...
  7. MPI 1105 SC RS Profile

The roland profile center has a profile for 1105 but you need to have versaworks 5 or versaworks dual. Hopefully that rip supports your printer, I imagine it would.
  8. Need Help Floor graphic calamity

I'm not sure what material you used but from my experience, if you used ij180cv3 and 8518 lam and have all rounded corners, you will not have any peeling issues or tripping hazards. Although that's not a "floor lamination", it is UL listed and will indemnify you from any lawsuits (99% sure...
  9. Question General Design & Wraps

I do a ton of vehicle wraps and we have 4 full time designers. Some projects I still send out to freelancers. There is an amazing vehicle wrap freelancer out of Florida named Scott Kepple. His Website is skepple.com. He's very fair on price to the trade considering the quality of his work...
  10. Question 300ppi for a 10' x 8' backdrop???

There is absolutely no reason for anything over 72 for backdrops. I print at 72 on a regular basis for banners and vehicle wraps. If it's photographic artwork, I'll save at 100dpi although there is only a very slight difference.
  11. Corrupt file in Versaworks

I used to deal with this all the time. Once I upgraded to Onyx, so many of my problems went away. The best part was no more bullshit with print and cut files not showing a cut line in versaworks. Those stupid transparency issues are non-existent in Onyx.
  12. Cut Work Table or Rollsroller?

I looked at the rollover and I did like it a lot. I don't remember it being quite that cheap but it only comes fully assembled. Even with the tools they use to go vertical and wheel it around, it wouldn't have made the swing into our production room. CWT and Roll-X can come unassembled which...
  13. Cut Work Table or Rollsroller?

We just got the Roll-X this week and so far so good. We got the electronic height adjustment which has already proved beneficial to our backs. We do a lot of full roll printing so I absolutely need the roll to roll laminator as well.
  14. Rolls Roller Roll X work table being installed today

So far very happy with the unit. I had it delivered unassembled. Came in a big crate that was beyond the capabilities of a forklift. I had to get a flatbed tow truck to winch it off the tractor trailer onto the flatbed. He then was able to drop it off in the shop. Tubelite techs came and...
  15. Rolls Roller Roll X work table being installed today

Super excited about this. I've tormented over which brand to buy for the past year and this year at SGIA, I finally made a decision. I went with the Roll-X 400/175. I like the electronic height adjustment since we have someone that's 4'11" and someone that's 6'2". Also love the cutting edge...
  16. Cheetah wrap & Fellers - Update

I stopped giving them business when I found out both my barber and my mechanic have accounts with Fellers. I do use them from time to time for certain products or tools but they are never my first choice.
  17. Need Help When dealing with a vector file that is missing files and fonts...

I usually just bring into photoshop and flatten to prevent any issues.
  18. Discussion Perks to Owning Your Own Shop

There are many advantages and drawbacks to being a business owner, many of which were mentioned in this thread. More importantly to me than those factors, I was born to be a business owner, a provider, a leader, a teacher. It may sound silly but it's embedded in my DNA. I dropped out of high...
  19. DRYTAC or GFP

I have the GFP 563TH-2 and at first I wasn't crazy about it. It took me a while to learn how to start it without a threading board like my last laminator. Once I got the hang of it, I absolutely love it now. I laminate a full 150' roll in about 8 minutes. The only other laminator you should...
  20. ShopVox

I just signed up for Shopvox but I'm still in the stages of setting it all up. I don't know the difference between signvox and shopvox but after a demo of shopvox, I believe it's a very powerful program and will help us in great measures. The only thing I can say is that I am about 15 hours in...
