  1. New Logo for fairly new sign company

I'm in one of the most economically depressed areas of Southern California. I choose to do work all over the US... and occasionally other countries.
  2. New Logo for fairly new sign company

With all this BRANDING talk... In your absence... your logo, brand, business card is the only connection to your customer... in my opinion, you want to make the best impression possible...
  3. New Logo for fairly new sign company

Are you a replicator or a designer? I don't aspire to be a lowballing (talented or hack) designer. With over 30 years of doing this, I would hope that my experience would account or something. I aspire to this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfDCNpaPBiA If I was a replicator, I...
  4. New Logo for fairly new sign company

There are many problems with this business but none are all universal. I never worry about newbies or Craigslist designers because I don't compete for that slice of the business... let them claw for 200 bucks, same with crowdsource, not competing with some third world country designer where...
  5. New Logo for fairly new sign company

I know... I was looking at an older thread a few weeks ago where another guy decided to get into the sign business, he posted a poop logo - really bad, like this one, we go in, have this same discussion, and poof, after a few weeks - he's gone. But for some reason, these posts are like crack...
  6. New Logo for fairly new sign company

I think what we posted IS usable compared to what the OP posted. Some of my best ideas happen in seconds or minutes after giving it some thought. What we show in a sketch has worth. What ticks me off is the undercutting of MY business pricing model. I'm not losing any business to Neato or...

Guess I'm a hypocrite... no more suggestions from me jeepers...

  10. ADA sign requirement changes in Arizona????

The problem with looking for a code that does not exist is, how are you able to google something that's not there? You're issue seems to be solved, just a rogue inspector. I was going to suggest that the inspector give you that particular code reference. Here in California, I just got...
  11. ADA sign requirement changes in Arizona????

ummmm.... what do you put on the door for this sign? http://www.justbathroomsigns.com/transgender-signs
  12. Illustrator vs. Gimp

What type of sign/design work? What's the problem, you can open his Illustrator files in Flexi and play with his artwork, and you can export files to him. I design more than just signs so Flexi would never be my first choice for designing anything in. Not that it would happen, but I...
  13. Honor among thieves. Who is the competition?

I see a big surge in the art of hand lettering, sharing of information, and I see very talented young designers, artists and lettering artists making money. At some point, we get too old, too cynical, and too set in out ways to see the potential in our work, fail to seek out new ways to...
  14. Need some help/advice on a storefront sign

Why did your designer take liberties with your logo? I would think keeping your logo/identity/brand consistent would be your first priority. If you were going to mix your identity up, make it look nicer that your original identity or redesign the logo. blah!!!

  16. What programs to use.

Not every design station needs output capability. Most shops with multiple design stations will: Design in Illustrator or Corel (including wraps) ------- Then have a dedicated production station with a sign/rip like Flexi for output
  17. SignCraft magazine is letting me down

So looking through it again... I really enjoyed the Jan/Feb issue. Not all of it was my cup of tea, I still respect the talent of all the hand work involved... Don't change a thing! (well maybe add some architectural signage)
  18. Attention all newbies

I should have added this... I mentioned this on Letterville once. A very long time ago, I had a few books of letters and doodles I made through high school. I always showed family members. My mom and dad would always tell me they looked great, my brother couldn't draw a straight line so who...
  19. SignCraft magazine is letting me down

I think it's not Signcraft's fault at all... Try getting shops to find articles to write for. You have to find a worthy shop, then get them to participate. I'm even guilty of turning down a spotlight on my business because it was not a good time for me. The other thing, average sign shop...
