  1. Looking at aquiring a Rockhopper 2 what problems???!!!

I don't know what's readily available on the second hand market there in the UK, but after purchasing a Rockhopper II as one of my first machines, I'd never get another, even for a backup. Expensive to maintain (at least here), parts are becoming scarce and printing times quite slow. At first I...
  2. Laserjet on Vinyl.

Right.. Digital Press, not a desktop Laserjet. You are correct - that is a good use for those type of projects. Not, however, a desktop unit.
  3. Laserjet on Vinyl.

Your alternative is to sub out your print work to someone who has the correct machines to do just that. You cannot use a tabletop laserjet to print wrap or sign vinyl. You might be able to find a used wide format for a decent price, then purchase the software to print registration marks on your...
  4. Wrapping cold painted plywood - cold weather!

I think more is going to depend on what the ply is painted with rather than the temperatures. If it's a latex coat with the silicone in it, nothing is going to stick even if it's 80° outside. Better to find that out first, then deal with the actual application. For what it's worth, I've applied...
  5. Re-making old logos CopyRight?

Specific logos (as mentioned, the Judge), typestyles and vehicle emblems are. I can't see where the manufacturers can copyright a stripe. Really, if I'm restoring a Mustang and it originally had the GT500 stripe down the side, do you think I'm going to an outside licensed outlet to purchase...
  6. Re-making old logos CopyRight?

Since it's end-user, there shouldn't be any issues with recreating what was there. Typical striping packages and logos (like Pontiac's "the Judge") are offered through many aftermarket outlets, so I doubt something like that is copyrighted. Not enough info to say for sure - what exactly are you...
  7. -

Eh... none of them really say "Signs" to me. None of the logos work on their own - they mean nothing, just a sampling of color forms. I don't think you need to add "& Graphics" to the name if you can come up with something that says to the world you do signs and not palm reading. So far, no dice..
  8. Google Search, Copyright Penalties

Oh, I think there is a huge grey area. What if I took a photo of the Washington Monument? That's a public icon, owned by the government. Can they say that I can't use or display that photo on my Facebook page? Probably not - unless I say something derogatory about it or the government. Without...
  9. Google Search, Copyright Penalties

Which begs the question what do they (Google, and the copyright folks) consider "a work of art"? Yes, I can see an issue if someone was passing, say, John Deaton's work off as their own and profiting from it, but what about photographs? Outside of pay-per-use sites like Shutterstock, who's to...
  10. Never seen this before...

That's what I'm trying to figure out. Unless it's two layers of really thin lam with the gold and the black between them, I just don't know. My best guess is the clear lam was cut in reverse, the gold was put down and turned, then backed with black. But can you get gold to turn on vinyl? And, if...
  11. Never seen this before...

So, I get called to one of the local ambulance groups to quote redoing a couple of their vehicles. They are merging, so the graphics will be much more basic - black and gold reflective. Boring, I know. But, I have to strip the existing stuff which I thought was going to be a problem. It was done...
  12. Vinyl is not a lot like wine...

Without 'Japan Grahica' watermarked all over it...
  13. Spraying Latex

HVLP's will cause some spitting with latex unless it's thinned way down. Look at the wall of any commercial building inside - they've been sprayed (usually) with a HVLP system. Pressure pots work well, but they, too, will need to be thinned.
  14. Wow, this is one job I could never do!

Watched something like that when Dirty Jobs was still on the air. The tower was half that height and I still got vertigo for Mike... Kudos to the guys that can handle those kind of heights. Not me!
  15. Any tricks for eliminating static from printer?

Gotcha. Don't have too much issue with prints, but the router and pvc is a whole other story! I'll have to play with some garland... might be a little festive for the shop!
  16. Stop using topical steroid creams!

My wife contracted that years ago. We couldn't figure out how except for the doctor thought it may have been through a tick bite that had it already. In any case, yes, topical steroids are definitely not meant for long term use!
  17. Windows 8 - Running flexi?

Yup, running 8.1 here on Win8 as well with no issues (relatively speaking). I don't use the production manager either.
  18. Any tricks for eliminating static from printer?

Ok, first I've heard of this. What do you actually do with it, drape it on the incoming/outgoing prints?
  19. One more..

That'll work. Yes, it's a horrible logo, of course provided at 96dpi at about an inch square! Thanks again!
  20. One more..

I know it, just can't find it in the system. Close is fine as I'm re-vamping an existing emblem, dissected trying to see if WhattheFont could find it - it didn't.. Note the N and R configuration.. As always, many thanks to those who play this game! R
