  1. Digital skin technology?? this is cool..

Interesting concept that's been around a while, though I doubt it'll ever become reality. The engineering involved to keep everything covered and working on opening parts would be immense and costs would reflect that. What happens when it gets a parking lot ding or worse?
  2. ShopBot

I'll admit I have one with a router attachment. Not the quickest, but that's ok. I can set it and forget it (for the most part) while I go do something else in the shop. Hop over to the ShopBot forums off their main site - lots of guys running plasma cutters off theirs. SB themselves I think...
  3. wrapping text on a cylinder

I never said the text got smaller, just that it appears to disappear. But yes, the 'convert to bitmap' option that Pat mentioned sort of does what I'm looking for, though it does tend to distort the image (and you lose the vector format). For the time being that will serve my needs (thanks...
  4. wrapping text on a cylinder

Not quite, John. Corel has the fit text to path, I'm looking for the text to wrap around a cylinder.. i.e. looking at a cylinder head on, with text upon the surface, the text would "disappear" around each bend, like a poster on a subway pillar. Envelope tool won't distort correctly, De.signs..
  5. wrapping text on a cylinder

Probably covered before, but can't find it through the search engine; is there a way to "wrap" text on a cylinder in X5? I could probably edit each letter individually, but that would take a bit of time. I also have Illustrator c3 that I don't use much if there is an option in that program.
  6. Heads up for all auto owners

Any fuel with ethanol (and that's most, currently) will damage engines that are not built for it. Rubber fuel lines, gaskets, injector seals - it all goes when exposed to ethanol. Even our low grade fuel here has 10% ethanol mixed in, there's no choice. It's hell on antique cars and lawn...
  7. is it me or is everyone a marketer?

My new favorite industry term I saw a week ago: "design engineer"..
  8. Truck bed liner

You could, but you would lose any definition and hard edges. Plus, you really can't paint it. There are other polyurea coatings out there that are meant for sign hard coats... buy one of those.
  9. letterman7

Sorry, cleaned out the system and don't have that manual anymore.

  10. Concrete monument sign - updated

Nice step by step, but you need to pay attention to your baselines, especially on that second line of copy.
  11. gold leaf coming off sign?

Have whomever did be responsible. Too much at risk trying to do something you haven't done before - and apparently, neither had the OE builder.
  12. gold leaf coming off sign?

Not enough info. Did your shop make the sign? If so, then the correct sizing - not adhesive - was used and the rest is going to fail shortly. If you guys made it, the only logical thing is to remove the sign, strip the leaf and re-gild correctly. If you did not make the sign, then you should...
  13. sign shop from home

Been home based for nearly 20 years. Shop is behind the house; computer, printer and cutters are in a dedicated room in the house, the shop houses the CNC and paint areas. Appointment only, I usually go to my customers but if someone has to stop in they come to the shop, not the house. Works...
  14. Grady White font... anyone recognize?

It's specific to GW; you'll have to find something close that the customer will approve.
  15. Fire Truck I just finished up.

Looks great! I'm surprised they aren't being held to the chevron requirement across the back though..
  16. Adhesive instead of welding?

Indoors or out? If there is no way to physically connect with rivets or bolts, Lords or the 3M autobody panel bond adhesive plus a couple sections of 3M VHB tape should hold nicely..
  17. Europe specific vinyls in the US?

Hello all, I have a client that is based in France and has been bought and sold several times. Each time their new visual identity spec calls out for 3M vinyls that are EU specific - I haven't been able to find them here. I've been able to match relatively closely with available colors...
  18. Painted farm sign.

Sweet! How big is that, Jill?
  19. MBX vinyl zapper

You can get the same thing in any on-line automotive jobber. I think I paid $325 four or five years ago and they haven't changed much. The replacement wheels are about $30 a pop. I love it despite the mess it makes. A hose takes care of that!
  20. how is this done?

That is a nice little how-to Pat!
