Mimaki is slow and old...based on? Best solvent tech? Based on what? Their sales brochure?
Here is what I know. New Mimaki in the lab at school. Actually about a year old now. Output is fantastic. It's been running full rolls of wrap, banner, wall fabric etc... since it was installed...
Just got back into the Flexi realm and I'm trying to understand the RIP side. So far all profiles for my Mutoh 1624x are 720x720, even banner which is completely unnecessary. While the output is gorgeous a lot of my work doesn't call for it. Would be fantastic to use speed the printer is...
I used iDot clear matte from BigFish for some interior office windows. Stuff installs like a dream and looks great.
Like Gino mentioned you would have to do some heat gain calcs to be safe. Not sure how that would work with a semi-opaque material though.
Were there a lot of jobs in either queue? If I didn't keep them cleared out VW would crash.
Something else you may want to try is clearing history. I was having issues with Flexi until I cleared history and emptied the trash.
Sounds weird, but it worked.
Buy the printer from the dealer in your town or the next town over. Can't stress service enough. My new printer came from a dealer within 30 minutes of my shop.
Could have bought a latex, heck I wired my office for a latex, but the closest tech charges $400 to show up. My new tech only...
Neat. I had thought about building one to hold wrap, banner and four mil. With DIY or the rig shown the issue would be infeed alignment. You would need to make sure it's dead level to the platen and trammed to the linear rail for the head.
After that you would want to pin it into position so...
Don't buy a Mutoh hmmmm..... I'm looking at my new 1624x as I type this. Very happy with the speed and quality. Solid colors look like cast vinyl, no exaggeration. Take up reel is incredible too.
Biggest thing with ANY printer/equipment purchase is service. My Mutoh was purchased from one...
Lots of good advice, but if there weren't people willing to take a "flyer" on a plan/dream where would we be? How would taking the safe route affected innovation? Fairly certain you weren't going to tell Henry Ford or Edison they needed to get some skills before diving in.

Just a thought...
Tape on a piece of vinyl to replace whats missing.
Measure horiz/vert distance between existing crop marks.
Make new crop marks and place in correct location.
Hi guys,
Lots of great responses. Thanks for the links Fred.
I hadn't thought about vector woodgrain. Will explore that at a later date.
Shoresigns is right about it being a PITA creating from scratch. Chewed up a few hours trying to build a file in Photoshop. Looks okay, but not crisp...
I have a wrap idea that utilizes teak/mahogany textures. I've been trying to create woodgrain in Photoshop and haven't had much success. Reason I want to build a texture is to control grain pattern and color.
Anyone here a Photoshop expert that can share tips? Or am I better off buying...
