  1. Top of windshield curve

The problem is that you're trying to flatten out a three dimensional object, sort of like trying to flatten out a hat. The simplest way is to tape a piece of paper across the windshield then use a Sharpie to trace the top curve and the sides, as far down the paper as they go. Then spread the...
  2. GCC Jaguar ii-61 tracking problems?

Nonsense. The probability the this situation is due to some software consideration is somewhere around 0. Machinery has mechanical problems caused by wear and tear and occasionally need maintenance and adjustment. Software on the other hand neither breaks nor wears out and does not require...
  3. Banner Tape Recommendation

Did you bother to remove the backing tape? I've been using whatever Oracal calls their banner tap for lo these many years. It's never, as in ever, failed. Ergo it functions just as well as anything else on the market. Perhaps there's something about your technique that could use improvement...
  4. Seeking a cure for my font ignorance

Fonts? First you mean 'type faces' and second, that sign was done by hand in whatever style moved the sign writer that did it that day. One thing is pretty much for certain; he did not say to himself or others "I think I'll use this or that type face on this sign." If you want to reproduce...
  5. Font ID help

If you were not 'like change things' [whatever that might mean] but actually asked in English if you could change the type face, perhaps they might have said "Yes".
  6. Warranties on vehicle graphics

I give my standard 5/50 warranty. 5 minutes or 50 mph whichever occurs first.
  7. Help with scuffs on new printed banners I orderes

To quote Valerie Clinton; "What difference, at this point, does it make?" Moreover, the notion of 'gas', as in 'out gas', pretty much is a mythical construct. Unless by 'gas' you are making an obscure reference to the evaporative drying of solvents, which occurs rather quickly. The recovery...
  8. Help with scuffs on new printed banners I orderes

Exactly so. But before coating them I'd break out my mega collection of Sharpies, every color know to man and kept on hand just for touching up the odd zits on banners and vinyl, and have a go at repairing what I could. The trick with Sharpies on banners is to dab lightly, not stroke. Then coat...
  9. What's Your Personal Favorite Tool...?

I used some non-skid carpet pad that my wife had laying around. It's a very thin perforated rubber. I cut some strips of it and used banner tape to attach it. It's still there and functional after at least 10-15 years. While you're at the drywall supply pick up a 4' drywall T-square. Very handy.
  10. What's Your Personal Favorite Tool...?

Safety rulers? Way too much parallax and way too rigid. 4', 6', and 8' aluminum rules, available at any drywall supply, with a thin non-skid backing applied put the edge a lot closer to the work. And the conform to a less than dead flat surface. Safety? Learn how to cut something and not cut...
  11. What do I need summa

"What form of windows?" Seriously? 'Version', the proper term is 'version'. Bog help us all.
  12. To pre-mask decal or not?

Cut a rectangle around each oval, weed the area between the oval and the rectangle, mask and trim the mask to the rectangle. Now each oval is sitting in the middle of a rectangle. Much easier to register a rectangle than an oval. Especially if you've never done much of this sort of thing.
  13. how to prevent fading with solvent on polyester cloth (neschen versa)?

Marabu Clear Shield? The stuff I'm talking about is, or at least was, made by an outfit called 'Clear Star'. Perhaps they changed their name. At any rate, Clear Shield is a water soluble liquid laminate available at sign supply houses everywhere. After thinning it until it's the consistency...
  14. how to prevent fading with solvent on polyester cloth (neschen versa)?

Whatever media you end up using, give it a coat of Clear Shield. It's every bit as much UV protection as vinyl laminate, deepens colors, flexible such that you really have no idea that it's there, and mildly abrasion resistant. Every banner that leaves this shop is coated with Clear Shield...
  15. Fontography expert needed

I would assume so. Semi-literates all.
  16. Fontography expert needed

The term is 'Typography'. Knowing the nomenclature is at least half of all wisdom, and all of not looking the fool.
  17. Corner not symmetric on a rectangle using corner rounding tool

When you initially construct a rectangle with round corners specified, the corners are circular. But if you resize that rectangle by dragging its control points via the first tab on the Design Central dialog, as you would any other object, then the round corners will distort right along with the...
  18. Hiking signs

Serious? Absolutely. If I were presented with the same circumstances as you describe I would have remarked that "parkers will be towed"is a rather clumsy and ungrammatical way to convey whatever message that they were attempting to convey. The client probably would respond "How would you say...
  19. Hiking signs

A sign maker should never, ever, write copy. The client gets to determine what it's going to say, you get to determine how it's going to say it. Maintain this division of labor religiously.
  20. Best Efficiency Improving Tips for your Sign Shop

A true craftsman does not give undue reverence to his tools. He can produce journeyman work with, or without, most any technology.
