  1. Talk about a tough economy ...

Ha! I need to take a pic of the bank I drove past yesterday. I want to say they had 6-8 home-made sharpie signs offering some kind of bonus to open up a checking account. They basically taped copy paper over some old signs, did their thing with the sharpie and then wrapped them in Saran Wrap...
  2. How much to charge for a rush job?

Question for BANNERS2GO and Mosh; I can understand that kind of pricing for a large order. But do you offer that price for Joe Blow who comes in off the street and needs one 3x5 banner printed? Just curious...
  3. Stainless tank trailer vs vinyl.

I haven't done one before, but I've heard you must use a special vinyl for stainless surfaces. Regular high performance vinyl won't hold up. Search the forum - I can't remember what the suggestions were. Good luck.

  5. Help

+1 Use a swab to clean your head, wiper and capping station. If you look closely you will likely see some fuzz or lint.

  7. Getting an in house laminator on a budget...opinions needed.

How long a piece do you typically laminate? I routinely put down Oracal 210 up to 32" wide with no problems with my BS. I have tried 48" vinyl and with another helper I can do that as well, though its a bit trickier. (You do have to be patient and go slowly.) With my smaller 32" BS I push...
  8. What happens to all the repossessed printing equipment?

There is a big outfit in West Virginia who deals a lot with repo sign equipment. I was thinking about buying a printer off them a while back. However, they have -NO- detailed info on any of the units other than if the printer powers on. Most of them I assume were pulled right out of shops...
  9. fellers platinum packages

There have been 2 shops within 20 miles of me that purchased their platinum packages within the last year and both have been trying like hell to unload them on Craigslist, Ebay and every other means necessary. Nobody is buying... It is a great package, but it's a LOT of coin and a big monthly...
  10. Epson, Summa, Roland, Mimaki, Mutoh??????

If you need to print whites and metallics on a regular basis I would stick to your Summa. I feel its too far of a stretch for inkjets. It CAN be done, but the question is at what cost or hassle? FWIW - I turn my printer off at night. Yes, I turn it OFF. In fact my printer was turned off...
  11. Dead, dead, dead......dead.

Guess I shouldn't gripe about having to install 2 4x8 real estate billboards tomorrow at 2 different locations in this cold weather. (But God I hate digging in the frozen ground.) Got a nice 4x5 hanging sign to build next week and also working on a 3x5 - 3/4" MDO panel that a husband is buying...
  12. Epson, Summa, Roland, Mimaki, Mutoh??????

I'm with Circleville in that I really like my Mutoh VJ and I have it paired with Wasatch SoftRIP which does really well on print quality and colors. The Mutoh has been great on the days when I have a full load, as it prints quickly all day long without a hiccup. In the same breath I can admit...
  13. Need some 9x6 Envelopes printed on.. who?

After spending 15 years in the offset printing world, envelopes are still one of the trickiest things to print - even for an offset printing press. Not to argue with ProWraps but I'd rather have a root canal than try to print 2500 6x9 envelopes on a desktop printer. Do yourself a favor and...
  14. Roland SC 500 Problems...PLEASE HELP!

I would contact Dave at SolventPrinterConversion.com. He is one of the most knowledgeable people around regarding the old Roland units and converting them to eco solvent inks. http://www.solventprinterconversion.com/
  15. Customer wants quote for a sign. Has no design or specs

Personally, I would prefer to talk to a person directly on the phone to get a feel for the entire situation before proceeding. Bob, I appreciate the consideration for your upcoming sign project. In order to submit a detailed and accurate quote I will need more information regarding the specs...

  17. 5 things you didnt know about me game

    1. I turned down a appointment (full ride) at West Point for football and several other colleges. 2. I am an avid fisherman, own a boat and have spent thousands of dollars on fishing gear. (Don't tell my wife.) 3. I have an English Springer Spaniel and we bagged several pheasants today. 4. I...
  18. Mutoh Ultima SC-1400D cutter?

Came across a seemingly good deal on a used Mutoh Ultima SC-1400D cutter to match up with my VJ-1204. Anyone have some detailed info. on these cutters? Are they a unique Mutoh-made cutter, or are they a cutter that Mutoh had someone else make? (I have heard Summa put these together for...
  19. Jimmy Johnson!

...don't even know a word yet, just a little infant, so cuddly, but still omnipotent. We just thank you for all the races I've won and the $21.2 million dollars... LOVE THAT MONEY, that I have accrued over this past season. Also due to a binding endorsement contract that stipulates I mention...
